Sergeant G. Hartenstine of the State Marine Police was the guest speaker at a recent Mayor's Advisory Council meeting. He spoke on boat safety and keeping the waterways safe. Boating is best enjoyed when the boater is knowledgeable and diligent in observing total safety precautions, the speaker said The Department of Law and Public Safety, through the Division of the State Police. Marine Law Knforcement Bureau, is responsible for enforcing all state laws, rules, and regulations upon the waters and waterways of the state. Hartenstine is from the North Wildwood Marine Law Knforcement Bureau Station, which serves Cape May, Salem, and Cumlieriand Counties. The station is located on the northernmost end of Central Ave-

nue in North Wildwood. Ann Somers and David Haines have been team teaching at the Middle School for the past 10 years. They have integrated their classes and presented the skills needed in language arLs and social studies in a classroom environment to meet individual needs. At the end of each academic year, their classes participate in a culminating activity. This year, in correlation with an economics unit and a career search paper, the sixth grade students of the 6/7B team developed and ran their own small businesses and wrote a term paper. Culminating activity for the 7B students was to publish and circulate their first edition of the "Little Middle Times", a Middle School newspaper The students role played various persons invovled: editor, assistant editor, circulation, special features, entertainment. sports, and classified. A special financial department was established to sell stock and pay dividends to the stockholders. Students utilized the computers and word.processors as part of this project. DURING TIIK past academic year, students in Berniece Bright's second grade class at Klementary School 1 have been exchanging letters with a second grade class in Garden City. Call 465- 2520 Til Kit K \KK 70 active members in the Cape May Court House Kiwanis Club, which was founded Nov. 30. 1043. under the sponsorship of the Cape May City Kiwanis Nick Swain. Chief Spencer, and l.indly Cook, guided by llenry II. White, made preliminary visits to prospective members in Court House and met with such encouraging responses that Henry C Pepper, the field representative of Kiwanis International, came to the area for several days in November. 1943. and was present at the organization's first meeting in the Old Court House Buildiqg. TIIK BYLAWS were adopted and the first officers were elected at the Nov 30. 1943 meeting Chris Dannenhauer became president. Burton Smith, vice president. S. Henry Vance, treasurer: and Henry II. White, secretary. Dr. G.M. Brooks. Preston Fisher. Osmond M. Corson. Paul .M. Scull. Ralph Evans. Raymond B. Krrickson. and William B. Powell were chosen as the first directors

The club's first luncheon was held at Fred's Restaurant Dec. 9. 1943. with 17 Kiwanians from the sponsoring Cape May club and 31 Court House members present. Lt. Governor Nick Swain installed the officers and directors at this meeting. The Charter was presented at the Methodist Social Hall on the evening of Jan. 20. 1944 Dr. John K. Brick is the only charter member of the Court House Kiwanis Club who is still an active member. He is also a past club treasurer. The club still has four active members from the 1950s, seven members from the 1960s, and 20 members from the 1970s, along with the large number of members who joined during the 1980s. The club currently ranks in the top 10 of all 162 clubs in the New Jersey District Kiwanis.

Signups for the Girls' Cheerleaders will take place at Memorial Field Thursday evening at 6 p.m. There is a $5 per family registration fee. Both the Boys' Midget Football and the Girls' Cheerleaders are open- to children in grades four through eight.
