Cape May Offers Variety of Tours

CAPE MAY - Trolley, walking, and house museum tours (including a new . Beach Drive Tour) are featured daily this summer in the nation's oldest seashore resort. Trolley tours begin at the Trolley Station. Beach Drive at Gurney Street, and include: The Historic East End Tour, highlighting the historic Physick Estate, two Victorian hotels — the Chalfonte (the oldest) and the Colonial (the newest). Columbia Avenue. Ocean Street, and tree-lined Hughes Street. THE HISTORIC West End Tour includes Congress Hall, the Huntington House, the Pink House. Congress Place. Perry Street, and the aligned porches of Decatur Street. The Beach Drive Tour, new in 1985. features a century of beach housing, from Victorian cottages to turn-of-the-century Mansions, to exotic revivals of the 1910s and '20s. to the best of contemporary design. Art Class Show Set FISHING CREEK - An exhibition of oil paintings will be held by the St. Barnabas Art Class 10 a.m. -6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and the following weekend. Aug. 10 and 11. at the home of Fury Feraco. 2723 Bay Drive. On display will be the works of students in the class conducted by Father William W. Shelton. vicar of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Villas. In the event of rain the show will be cancelled for the day.

WALKING Tours of the National Landmark District provide an entertaining orientation with a comfortable stroll down many of the historic streets, spiced with historical insights into the customs and traditions of the Victorians and their ornate, delightful architecture. Tours of the Emlen Physick Estate. 1048 Washington St.. feature the 16-room house designed by architect Frank Furness and built in 1881 in the Stick Style. It is now an authentically restored Victorian House Museum. The estate tour also includes the Carriage House, now home of the Cape May County Art League. EVERY WEEK in August. MAC operates Physick Estate and Trolley Tours that are specially geared for children 6-12. Children's Physick Estate Tours run every Tuesdaymorning at 10 while Children's Trolley Tours run every Thursday morning at 9:30. Moonlight trolley rides offer balmy ocean breezes and gaslit streets aboard MAC's Open Air Trolley. This ride leaves from the Trolley Station. Beach Drive at Gurney Street every evening at 8:30.
