Swim-A-Thon Set Saturday OCEAN CITY - Registration forms are now available for the Third Annual Sunshine Foundation Swim-A-Thon co-sponsored by WIBG and the Ocean City Sunshine Foundation. The event will run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Community Center, 18th Street and Simpson Avenue. Founded in 1976 by Bill Sample, former Philadelphia policeman, The Sunshine Foundation has as its goal to raise funds to grant special wishes — perhaps last wishes — to critically and terminally ill children. "Every child should see at least one dream come true" is the group's motto. Both swimmers and sponsors are needed for the event. Aug. 6: Chili con came w/kidney beans; buttered noodles, peas, vanilla pudding. Aug. 7: Baked fish fillet, Tartar sauce/catsup, potatoes au gratin, mixed vegetables, cinnamon bun. Aug. 8: V-8 juice, chicken chop suey, Chinese noodles, green beans, blueberry cobbler. Aug. 9: Roast beef w/gravy, baked potatoes, chopped spinach, fresh purple plums. Each meal is accompanied by bread, margarine, coffee, tea, or milk. Snacks, delivered with mobile meals to the homebound. are: Aug. 5: Beef pot pie, oatmeal cooky, pear, milk. Peace Drive Aug. 6 The Jersey Cape Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament is sponsoring a bus to Washington Sunday. The trip is part of the coalition's commemoration of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The main event will be the wrapping of the Pentagon with over 17 miles of ribbons from all over the country. Buses will leave the Cumberland County Mall at 7:30 a.m. For information call 'IAH-R714 ON TUESDAY. Aug. 6. the 40th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, the coalition will sponsor a peace ddrive, in which participants will drive their cars in a parade from Ocean City to Cape May. The first several cars will carry banners, and everyone is invited to fly ribbons from car antennas. The drive can be joined in Ocean City, Avalon, and the Jamesway Plaza in Court House. THE TIMETABLE and stops are: 5:30 p.m.— start from Acme lot at 34th Street in Ocean City; 6 p.m.— leave from Bay Marina in Avalon; 6:30 p.m.— leave Jamesway Plaza, Court House, and go to Lafayette Street Elementary School in Cape May via Parkway; 7 p.m.— walk from school to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Washington Mall. There will be a prayer and a short program in the church I Laughing Gulls Lecture Topic STONE HARBOR - What do those familiar gray and white birds find so funny? Some of the answer will be provided by Dr. Penny Bernstein, who will present an illustrated lecture on the behavior of the laughing gull at the meeting of the Wilmer Stone Club in the auditorium of the Wetlands Institute here 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. Dr. Bernstein is a research assistant in the Biology Department of Rutgers University and a former visiting assistant professor at Stockton State College. Her current research involves a study of laughing gulls and the role of the long-call (the "laugh") in their social system. Environment To Be Topic I VILLAS — The Lower Township Taxpayers Association will meet 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7. at the Millman Center. Bayshore Road. Guest speaker will be Larry Newbold, and the topic will be "Your Environment". All township residents are welcome.
