Old Courthouse Has Seen It All

COURT HOUSE - In March it was murder. This month it's marriage. What more could be asked from a 137-year-old courthouse?

This spring, freeholders approved a murder drama. "Night of January 16". per formance by the Jersey Cape Performing Arts Guild Sandpiper Players in the old building.

Last week, they also approved what they thought was their first request to hold nupitals in the structure. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Posternock of Wildwood Crest had asked to have their son Michael's ceremony there when he weds Alice Sue Werner of York. Pa., and West Wildwood. on Oct. 19. Michael Resides in Fairtax. Va. The old courthouse, however, has already hosted two or three weddings performed by Judge Charles Sandman, according to his office. County Counsel. Harry Delventhal suggested a refundable deposit be required against any possible damages. The freeholders agreed that there should be a fee schedule and a specific policy to govern private party use of public properties. They noted that the county already permits weddings on the pavilion at the county park for no charge, but a fee is required for receptions. Also. Freeholder Herbert Frederick pointed out that there have been inquires about using the county's Historic Cold Spring Village, in Lower Township for wedding sites. "I forsee many requests in the future,"' said Freeholder Gerald Thornton. noting the extensive . renovations the old courthouse has undergone.

A DORIS T. HICKS Seafood Lecture STONE HARBOR - Doris T. Hicks, seafood technology specialist from the University of Delaware and Sea Grant Marine Advisory Service, will present an illustrated lecture. "Do Your Health a Favor, Eat Seafood" 8: 15 p.m Saturday at the Wetlands Institute here. According to Ms. Hicks, the average American eats about 13 pounds of seafood per year, compared to 149 pounds of beef and 57 pounds of poultry This is largely due to the fact, she said, that most people are less familiar with handling, preparing, and cooking seafood than many other foods Lecture topics will include the nutritional benefits of eating seafood, what to look for when baying fresh and frozen seafood, and how to handle, prepare, and store ieafood in order to maximize its nutritional benefits
