Aid Fight On Hunger
WILDWOOD - The KYW Channel 3 News Team, headed by Tom Lemaine, visited Wildwoods to "Strike Out Against Hunger" in a Celebrity Softball Game with "Keep Them Alive", a Cape May County group dedicated to help end world hunger. Saturday. "Keep Them Alive" is an organization comprosed of private citizens in Cape May County who felt they had to do their part to help end world hunger. Founders, Tommy and Sue Adams and Barbara Haynes, secured the Gazette-Leader for their Hornets Soccer Leaders STONE HARBOR - The Green Hornets continue to cruise along in the borough soccer league. The Hornets, led by the league top scorer. Brian James, increased their record to 6-0. In Monday's game Brian scored four goals against the Maroon Mariners to give the Hornets a 4-1 victory. In the second game the Blue Waves, by Mickey McC'ann and Chris Reuf, defeated the Gold Diggers 5.2 WEDNESDAY. Jennifer Eggert and John Bosacco led the Gold Diggers past the Mariners by the score of 4-1. In the night-capper the Blue Waves were beating the Green Hornets 1-0 until Michael James scored with 45 seconds left to send the game into a shootout. On the fifth and last shot Eric Burr drilled the ball into the corner of the net to give the Hornets the victory. TO SUM UP the week. Brian James scored His 9th and 10th goals of the seasons to give the Hornets a 2-1 victory. In the other game the Maroon Mariners won the 1st game of the year with two goals from Jamie Bosler. Tennis Winner STONE HARBOR - Scott Christensen of Erial, N.J. defeated Bob Binns of Wildwood in the finals of the borough men's tennis tournament after 1 hr. and 45 minutes of long rallies, Christensen won 6-3, 6-4. Christensen received a bye in the first round, then defeated John Del Monte. Jim Simeone and Dick Barton to reach the finals. In ther other bracket, number two seed Bob Binns received a bye before defeating David Matagiese, Chuck McEnroe, and Zach Chevez before falling in the finals. The borough will start the mixed doubles tournament Saturday and the men's double Aug. 10. Registration is due noon, the Friday before i the starting dates. Gold Leads Girls ' Play STONE HARBOR - Girls Junior League basketball had another exciting week Tuesday night Maroon had the edge over Blue by 12-10. Tara Krouse led the scoring with 6 points. The second game was Gold over Green 12-4. Agatha Donavian led the scoring with 6 points and Gold's defense did not allow Green to score the second half. Gold continues to be in first place. JUNIOR GIRLS resumed play Thursday night. Gold stayed undefeated by beating Maroon 10-8. Chrissv Yost and !>eb Sherlock each had 4 points to help Gold stay on top. The second game was Blue over Green 20-14 Meg Thompson led the scoring for Blue with 8 points.
