Pro Volleyball In Wild wood

DIAMOND BEACH - Yet another Southern California trend is making its way East, as this Lower Township resort will be the site of the Lite Beer Wildwood Open pro beach volleyball tournament this weekend. Tennis Tournament WILDWOOD CREST - Tennis action gets underway this weekend, with the Diamond Jubilee tennis tournament for men's and women's doubles. Semifinals begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with finals set for the same time Sunday. The public is invited to attend the matches on the municipal courts at Colubine and Atlantic avenues.

Competition begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday, with finals action to begin around 3 Sunday afternoon. A related beauty contest will be held Saturday afternoon at l. Most Americans garnered some volleyball experience while watching the Men's U.S. Olympic volleyball team take on the world on their way to the gold medal in last summer's Olympic Games. Beach volleyball, unlike the indoor game, has two men per side instead of the six players shown during the Olympics. The court size, net height and scoring are the same for both, but the soft sand surface for beach volleyball creates a different and exciting game.

CAPE MAY — A pair of white marlin caught and released on the first day of fishing in the 29th annual Cape May County White Marlin Tournament produced a win for Capt. Bob Economy's boat Renate Eileen. The tournament drew 38 boats in a two-day fishing event held Friday and Saturday. Boats fished Friday from their home ports in Cape May County and returned to first-night dockside activities at South Jersey Marina in Cape May. score in the two .days of fishing. THE WINNING boat is out of Ocean City. The two anglers who released white marlin were Richard Economy of Ocean City, and Louis Glaven of Linwood. The fish were caught in Wilmington Canyon. Second place for individual boats went to the My Honey, out of Avalon, with Harry Wilson Sr. at the helm. The two fish caught and released on the My Honey were caught by William Wilson and HarryWilson Jr. from Pine Hill. Third place for individual boats went to the Glass Machine for a white marlin released by Fred Castellini of Vineland. THE BLUE MARLIN was caught by Richard Lynch of Court House It weighed in at 124 lbs. The blue hit a squid bait on Capt. Tom Brodesser's boat Lazy Bones. The Glass Machine also copped the Dolphin prize with a 56-lb. fish. The Rockaway. owned by Emmett Sheridan of Avalon ccaught the second place 30-lb. dolphin and won both prizes in the tuna division with 145 and 123-lb. fish. Ocean City Marlin and Tuna Club Team No. 1 won the team competition. The Outcasts team out of Cape May came in second and the Cape May Marlin and Tuna Club team No. 1 took third in the team category. The winners were honored at a dinner Sunday night at the Golden Eagle Hotel in Cape May. The tournament is sponsored annually by the Jersey Cape Sportfishing Committee in cooperation with the Cape May County Board of Freeholders The tournament is primarily a release event with the emphasis on conservation of the species.
