Gas Sales Shift Hit FOLSOM - South Jersey Gas Co. has formally stated its opposition to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) proposed new rulemaking for restructuring the natural gas industry as it pertains to the relationship among gas producers, interstate pipelines and gas distribution companies regarding methods of selling and transporting gas. Under existing FERC regulations, interstate pipelines are the arm of the natural gas industry responsible for purchasing ga/ from producers for ultimate sale to the gas distribution companies. WILLIAM F. RYAN, company President, commented, 'In its proposal, the FERC has assumed that individual distribution companies can be- more efficient purchasers of natural gas in the field than the larger, more experienced interstate pipeline companies that have assumed this responsibility in the past.
