Head of Pathology Named by Hospital
COURT HOUSE — Joseph E. Pirog, M.D.. has been named head of pathology at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital here. Dr Pirog assumes the responsibility for a fully accredited laboratory with a
total of 40 technical employees offering 24-hour-a-day. 7-day-a-week service to the hospital and community . The facility includes specialized services in chemistry, microbiology, hematology, and histopathology. The hospital blood bank is also under his supervision. Pirog received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford, and his M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his internship at St. Margaret Memorial Hospital in Pittsburgh. Pa. His residency in pathology was at Presbyterian University Hospital and Shadyside Hospital. both of Pittsburgh. He served a fellowship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. New York. N Y . and is hoard certified in anatomical and clinical pathology. Dr. Pirog is a fellow of the I College of American PathI nlogists and the American I Society of Clinical I Pathologists and a member I of the American Medical I Association. JOSEPH E. PIROG. M.D. Compost Plant Featured SWAINTON - A major feature story on the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority composting plant, which was written by the authority's chief of operations and maintenance, was published recently in BioCycfe magazine. BioCycfe. which comes out eight times a year, is billed as the "Journal of Waste Recycling" and is a widely read trade publication. AUTHORITY Chief of Operations and Maintenance William W. Cathcart, authored the article on the CMCMUA composting plant, which covered four full pages, was complemented by a number of pictures, a drawing charge, and was featured in full color on the cover of the publication. The magazine held its 15th national conference for waste recycling officials in Philadelphia in May. during which it hosted a tour fo the CMCMUA facility In his editorial in the May/June issue ef BioCvcle. editor and publisher Jerome Goldstein said that finding ways to recycle sludge produced in wastewater treatment plants in composting facilities such as the one operated by the CMCMUA is "helping to achieve the sort of society we want when it comes to transferring waste residuals to useful sources
