Edmund K. Webb III was elected as a trustee of Key Club International at its annual convention in St. Ivouis. Mo. during the week of July 7 There are 14 trustees to help gpvern Key Clubs throughout the continental united States and eight foreign countries. Webb will oversee all the Key Clubs in the two populous states of New Jersey and Indiana He was also elected to the international executive board and appointed chairman of the finance committee and will serve, on the major emphasis committee. For the past year he has served as the Key Club Lieutenant Governor for Division One. where he was recognised as a distinguished lieutenant t governor in the New Jersey .District Webb will travel extensively next year as he assumes his duties. In addition to overseeing the Key Clubs in New Jersey and Indiana, he will be invplved at the International level in making decisions for the over 112,000 Key Club members in its :i.5tk) clubs THK .MIDDLE Township High School Key Club, of which Webb is a member, is recognized as one of the outstanding clubs in the New Jersey District It is sponsored by the Court House Kiwanis Club, and has received numerous awards at district conventions. Sam Brewer, who is the advisor to the local Key Club, accompanied the Court House delegation, which included Webb. Leeann Mclivaine. and James Moore, all of Court House, and Robert Dean of Stone Harbor Brewer is assisted in the sponsorship of the club by his wife Joan. Charles and Marion Cantz, and Harry and Robin Cooper. OVER 2.300 Key Clubbers attended the convention. In the final voting for tne trustee positions. Webb was the top vote getter and is in good position to run for International President next year Webb will be a junior this year at MTHS He is also an honor student and a junior member of the Mayor's Advisory Council He is the son of Edmund and Patricia Webb Jr. of Court House Carl Records, who is a member of the Mid-Jersey Cape Rotary Club, accepted an appreciation award on behalf of his club from the Court House Kiwanis Club at the Kiwanis weekly dinner meeting July 25 Ray Burke, the Kiwanis Club's citizenship chairman. presented the award to the Rotary Club in recognition of its many charitable services, including fund-raisers-for the American Cancer Society, donating $3,000 worth of scholarships annually to the young people of the area, and the delivery of baskets of food to the needy TIIE THIRD Annual Cape May County Special Olympics Track Meet was held at Memorial Field in Court House July 27. About
i 50 athletes participated in the vSkious events. The Court House Kiwanis Club sponsored the track meet. ; Dan Money, coordinator, along with President Tony > Devico and other Kiwa- > nians. assisted the special I athletes with the various [ events. Also assisting were > five New Jersey State Track and Field Officials ; and two members from the I Lower Township Kiwanis » Club. I Many ribbons were given out to the various winners of each event. Court House Kiwanis donated 50 box iunches to the athletes Everyone had a great time. The group continued the daylong outing by spending some time at the beach in North Wi Id wood and culminating the day by eating frankfurters and hamburgers at the Countv Park. The Middle Township High School Marching Band, under the direction of Richard l.udwig. played the "Star Spangled Banner" and several* other tunes before Governor Tom Kean. other dignitaries, and many spectators at the opening day ceremonies, of the New Jersey State Fair at Garden State Park in Cherry Hill yesterday. The entire school band were transported by school buses up to the event. This is the first time that the State Fair is being held in Cherry Hill. It used to be held in Trenton or at the Great Adventure amusement park The fair will run through Sunday BARBARA LIGHTLY of Court House was voted Miss Congeniality at the 1985 Miss Cape May County Pageant, held at the MusicPier in Ocean City July 26 Karen Galloway of Court House was the fourth runner-up in the contest. Sheila Yates of Ocean City was the winner and will be eligible to compete next summer in the Miss NewJersey contest If she wins, she will be a contestant in the 1986 Miss America Pageant MAYOR MIKE Voll and his wife Susan were the hosts of a pool party at their home in Rio Grande. July 19 The pprty was a "thank you " to the members of the mayor- s, advisory council who have served the township's residents diligently without compensation during the past year. Congressman Kill Hughes and his wife Nancy attended the party along with Committeemen Chuck l.eusner and Jim Alexis. Many members of the advisory council albng with their immediate families attended this event , T II E A N N I A L miniature golf tournament will be held at the Dallas Steak House on Route 9. Rio Grande. 6 p.m Aug 15. Trophies will be given out to three separate age groups The event is sponsored by the Middle Township Recreation Department This will be the last miniature golf tournament to be held. He is a member of the United States Sailing team - The GF-14 is a 14-foot, one design, two-man sailboat in which all boats are built to essentially the same specifications The boat carries a mainsail, jib. and spinnaker Selection to the team re- • quired Van Meter to compete in four qualifying regattas held at area yacht clubs last summer Only 200 contestants from around the world qualified to complete in the four day event which. began Monday. Van Meter is a I960 Middle Township High School graduate and former resident of Stone Harbor He now resides in Medford with his wife and two children He is the son of Charles and Kate Van Meter of Dias Creek.
