Turn The Pane (RCA) is a substantial effort from country artist Waylon Jennings that should easily satisfy his fans and find its way onto the charts. Jennings' raw. yet full of warmth, voice perfectly suiLs the start musical support. Riving his music an intense urgency few contemporary country artists possess On the minus side. Kris Kristoffer son's wellintended tribute to Johnny Cash. "Good Morning 1 John." is overly maudlin and Stevie Nicks' "Rhiannon" is stiff and out-of-place. These are minor complaints, as Waylon Jennings' expressive vocals are a pleasure to hear. BEFORE Jennings join ed the so-called "outlaw" sect of country music, he cut an unbelievable number of sides in

Nashville under the watchful eye of C'het Atkins. Much of this is now sadly .out-of-print here in the States, but thanks to Germany's Bear Family label, it's now possible to catch up with this neglected Jen- . nings period. Bear Family is reissuing everything Jennings cut for' RCA between 1965 and 1972. This will lake 15 albums, eight of which are already available. SOME OF this is the stark outlaw music that made Jennings an international star, but there's also folk, rock and roll, pop, and even some jazzy instrumental. Despite some lush, corny string arrangements, I wholeheartedly recom- j" mend this series as these albums provide some added insight to this great artist. 1 There are plenty of in- \ credible performances on these eight records and I can hardly wait for the other sewn, which should be out in October. If your favorite record store doesn't stock them, they can be ordered from the best mailorder record source. Down Home Music. 10341 San Pablo Ave.. El Cerrito, CA. 94530. GET BACK (EMU is a rockin' collection of tunes from the 60s and 70s by Ike and Tina Turner, their high energy- hybrid of blues and rock still sounds ex citing, courtesy of Tina's electrifying vocals and Ike's tight, no frills, band With Tina now a megastar. hopefully this is the start of a massive reissue program Simon Townsend's. solo ! album from last year was a i passable, somewhat promising. effort, but his new band. Moving Target, has a mediocre debut for Polydor that should be avoided Lightweight mainstream rock that lacks style and personality Moving Target has a terminal case of blandness. I'nlike most current English bands. The Truth doesn't depend on gimmicks to promote its music It doesn't have to. as its R&R tinged rock is powerfully exciting
