Batten Repeats Challenge Raymond Batten, Democratic candidate for the state Assembly in the 1st District (Cape MayCumberland), has renewed his challenge to the Republican incumbents to meet him in debate. In a letter sent by certified mail Jyne 6. Batten had challenged Assemblyman Guy Muziani and Joseph Chinnici to a series of six debates. IN HIS latest blast. Batten say's, "I note that neigher of you have elected to respond to this challenge, other than for Mr. Muziani to indicate his willingness to engage in the debates traditionally held in Cumberland County, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, and in Cape May County, sponsored by the Taxpayers Association of Lower Township." The candidate reiterated his desire for debates in Vineland, Bridgeton, Ocean City and Wildwood. and urged Muziani and Chinnici to meet him "on stage" to "defend the records of four and 13 years of legislative inertia to which you cling so tightly."

S.O.B.E.R. Awards Planned

COURT HOUSE - In May. 1986. the N.J. Office of Highway Safety will present three community servCPR Class Begins Thurs. CAPE MAY - The local chapter of the American Heart Association is offering a CPR class 7:30-10:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Seventh District Training Center. Washington and Franklin streets. The cost ($10) includes materials and books. Other classes will be held Aug. 13. 15 and 19. According to Joseph Crouch Jr., instructortrainer, instructor classes are also available as well as recertifications and lectures about the association's Fight for Your Lif?. Awards will be based on distribution of materials, special events, and service hours. All clubs throughout the state are eligible to participate. S.O.B.E.R.. an acronym for "Slow On the Bottle. Enjoy the Road" for adults; and "Stay Off the Bottle. Enjoy the Road", for young people , is a public awareness program sponsored by the N.J. Office of Highway Safety and conducted through the offices of the National Council on Alcoholism. THIS PROGRAM provides information and education designed to alert the public to the hazards of drunk driving. The Cape May County Council on Alcoholism will work closely with the local women's clubs by providing

materials, speakers, and support. Governor Thomas Kean recently announced that recording star Dionne Warwick, a native of New Jersey, will be the 1985-86 celebrity spokesperson for S.O.B.E.R. Ms. Warwick's participation, along with the support of N.J.S.F W.C.'s 30.000 members will help to spread the S.O.B.E.R. message throughout the state. For more information contact Jean Gorman.
