did not get into a concentration in the area where we were fishing. But then, it has been my personal preference to fish way from the fleet. TIPS: WE occasionally pass on a tip for our readers which has crossed our desk or which someone told us in our travels. We dealt recently with crabbing and some of the methods and baits. Since then, we have had a couple of calls regarding bait enhancement Both parties let us in on their "secret" methods One chummed crabs to the area under his -boat by freezing a couple of cans of . cat food These were fastened to a light line which was weighted with a couple of eight-ounce sinkers after some holes were punched in the cans to let the cat food and the oil and flavor in it leach out into ' the water. THE OTHER "tip" we received was from a crabber who used fluke heads and frames, mossbunkers and bluefish carcasses — any or all of these at times, and all with equal success His friends tell us he catches crabs with amazing regularity His secret is to prepare his bait the day before. He laces the bait liberally with a product called Bunkeroil. which is made by a firm from Ocean City. N.J It is the Perfex Corporation, at 252 As bury Ave The phone number is 399-6767 .A call there can get you information on the Bunkeroil product as well as a couple of other essences which are used as bail enhancers. Morris Swope is the proprietor there The Perfex people can tell you where to get their product 1 s » SHORT CASTS: Best bets this week are weakfish

and fluke trips to Delaware Bay; bluefish trolling and chumming and fluke and weakfish action around the inlets. Back Bay anglers can look for weakfish in the quiet areas in the sounds out of the heavy boat traffic. White bucktails fished slowly along the bottom and back up to the boat work best. Try strips of squid on the bucktails along with purple worms. Quarter to 3/8-ounce bucktails work best, with the twister tails also in the smaller sizes. Night bluefish chumming has also bounced back with some bigger fish showing. Offshore, the 30 fathom line has been producing bluefin tuna and some albacore. bonito and yellowfins. Some dolphin and white marlin are also being reported. 0
