Lower Township News Notes

(From Page 26) Brodesser Bros., that expired July 26, are still pending council approval. It tabled action on them July 15 when Deputy Mayor Davis requested more information about safety precautions for the three Erma sites. Stump reported last week that the matter is still under review because, it seems, at least one of the pits has been expanded and further excavations were prohibited under a 1977 ordinance. BY A 3-1 MARGIN, with Lonergan dissenting, council Mast week adopted Ordinance 85-22 which allows the township and MUA to share manpower and equipment. "THIS IS A heavily regulated business," Stump said in submitting yard sale Ordinance 85-33 for council action last week. "I'm proposing that we have the police department enforce this ordinance." Council unanimously approved the measure on first reading; second reading and final action are scheduled after an 8 p.m. public hearing Monday in Township Hall, 2600 Bayshore Rd., Villas. COUNCIL ALSO approved on first reading last

week proposed Ordinance 85-24, which, if adopted after a public hearing, would vacate Charmain Avenue, a paper street — actually an alley between Evergreen and Cloverdale avenues in the Highlands Beach section of Villas. "It would be better off in the hands of the adjoining property owners," Solicitor Gorman advised. The public hearing on the matter is pending Planning Board review. THE PLANNING Board meets 7:30 p.m. tomorrow to consider the following applications: revised major subdivision plans for nine plots at New England and Shunpike roads. Cold Springs; two minor subdivision plans, both for three lots along Weeks Landing Road, Erma; final major subdivision plans for 11 lots off Seagrove Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, Sunset Beach; a minor site plan application to rebuild Mill Creek Marina off Ocean Drive on Cold Spring (Cape May) Inlet; and preliminary site plans for a metal addition to a masonry industrial building in a residential zone on Fishing Creek Road. Also, site plans for offices and a vessel maintenance warehouse at Sea Harvest Industrial Park, Ocean Drive on Cold

Spring Inlet; and minor subdivision plans to create two lots, with a hardship variance for area and front yard setbacks, on Mayflower Avenue, Cape May Gables, Cold Spring (south of the Cape May Canal). NOTICE — Township Planning Director Harry W. McVey urged Lower's zoners last week to attend a 7:30 p.m. Planning Board meeting next Wednesday in Township Hall when it's expected to discuss "the possibility of a 'grandfather' clause on undersized lots." If existing undersized lots are 'grandfathered,' their owners would no longer be required to apply for, nor would planners and zoners issue, hardship variances for construction on them. ZONERS LAST WEEK unanimously approved hardship variances for: a single-family home on an undersized Baywyn Road lot in Cape May Beach (Tolz tract), Town Bank; a 10- by 30-foot addition into a front yard setback at 120 W. Hudson Ave., Villas; and a 20- by 24-foot attached garage into the side yard setback at 955 Carol Ave., Erma. They conditionally approved a hardship variance to enlarge a garage into the rear yard setback at 810 Shunpike Rd.. Cold Spring. | They tabled until Sept 3, I action on a hardship I variance application to I build a single-family home I on an undersized Erma lot Lj at Myrna Road and Route y 9.
