Cape May To Hold Seafood Festival

CAPE MAY - The Third r Annual Cape May Seafood Festival will take place Sept. 6 through 8. The festival provides a weekend of seafood and commercial fishing » displays, musical enterJp tainment, contests and tons I of delicious seafood in a | celebration of Cape May's ft prominence as the largest K commercial fishing port in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Friday. Sept. 6, activities are centered at Convention Hall, where demonstrations of seafood selection and preparation will take place. Along with the demonstrations, visitors will get the opportunity to sample shark, squid and other exotic seafood. Displays by government agencies and commercial exhibits will show how commercial fishermen ply their trade. SATURDAY, Sept. 7, there will be a host of activities at the U.S. Coast Guard Base. Visitors will join in the blessing of the fleet and ceremonies for fishermen lost at sea. Survival suit races by the Coast Guard and commercial boat teams were a Walks, Shows At State Park CAPE MAY POINT — Guided walks and slide shows are offered by the naturalists at Cape May Point State Park, by the lighthouse here. AH activities are free. Walks last from l-l1* hours and begin at the State Park Visitors Center. Wear comfortable shoes, bring binoculars, a hand lens, and field guides (if available). Slide shows are held in the Environmental Education Building, next to the Visitors Center. For more information J call 884-2159.

Saturday afternoon and evening the demonstrations and displays continue at Convention Hall, where musical entertainment, art show, seafood demonstrations and a bathing suit contest entertain the onlookers on the Promenade. A free band concert at the Rotary Bandstand starts at 8 p.m. Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. is the Restaurant Festival, featuring a smorgasbord of seafood delicacies. Eleven Cape May Restaurants will be offering a huge selection of baked, broiled, fried and steamed seafood. At 2 p.m., a band concert and closing ceremonies will be held at the Rotary Bandstand.
