The native Cape May sport is an easy one to play, says Club President Rich Reinhart. Two holes are dug in the sand 25,/2' apart, and contestants try to "pitch" their shells into the hole. Scoring is as in horseshoes (a "bucket" counts two points) and game is 21. REINHART stressed that the tournament is open to the public, and all are encouraged to try their hand. "This is not like horseshoes where 90-95 percent accuracy is commonplace" he said. "Clamshell pitching, especially in the wind, is a very delicate art. I'd say on a good day our best players average well under 30 percent." Once again the city is sponsoring the event and will donate trophies to be awarded in numerous categories. Winners and runners-up will be honored in Mens' and Women's Singles. Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Clamshell Club T-shirts are available, and plans are nearly finalized for the annual dinner to be held Sunday evening at the competition's conclusion.
