} College Committee Gets 1st Look at Proposals
CREST HAVEN - The county's community college study committee last week got its first look at the sevenweek old branch campus proposals of Atlantic Community College and Cumberland County College. The 15-member group met for an hour Aug. 8 at the vo-tech career center and agreed to gather there ever other Thursday at 1 p.m. The next meeting will be Aug. 22. Acting Secretary Diane L. Hevencr said Freeholder James S. Kilpatrick Jr. "hoped for a decision by ()ctobe or November." But. she said, "some felt that . might not be enough time." She is a I^ower Township Elementary School Board member and represents the county School Boards Association. KII. Avalon Extending Bulkhead AVALON — If a strong storm were to hit Avalon within the next few months, the beachfront area between 15th and 17th Streets could be severely damaged, according to borough officials. To prevent that from happening, the borough will begin extending the bulkhead between 15th and 17th Streets on Aug. 12. Timber work on the bulkhead will begin Aug. 12 and the beach from 15th - 16th Streets will be closed. Beaches sogth of 16th Street will remain open Stone work on the bulkhead will begin after Labor Day. as will the work between 16th and 17th Streets. The construction crewwill not work on Labor Day weekend.
