AFTER THE art show on Aug. 11, we learned we missed excitement in Shelter Haven Basin. We called the N.J. State Police Marine Station at Wildwood and found that the officer answering the call would not be in until Wednesday and would phone me then. He did and let me say that this arm of the law is the most efficient and helpful we have ever encountered. Ptl. Charles Johnson was writing a summons for a speeding boat at 96th Street 4 Bridge when he was con-

tacted. On arrival at the scene he found seven highperformance. 28'-40" racing boats with large engines blocking ingress of Capt. Don Cramer's charter vessel to its mooring. Using a loud speaker, police ordered boat owners who were in Touche to move their craft immediately. They dived from the dock surrounding the facility, swam to their boats, and dispersed amid much confusion. The resultant noise was horrendous and one boat bearing a Dela. registration "The Wild Cherry" was cited for a noise violation. Sgt. Carl Allen, who was on duty at the Atlantic City Marine Police Station reported his desk was flooded with phone calls during the disturbance. We got some phone calls too. Homeowners around the basin were incensed, particularly so since their cove had just been posted banning swimming because of a high coliform testing Aug. 8. The County Dept. of t Health has been making a I daily sampling for five days. ^ From DeGenova Collection ' Seng Beach House
