Chic thing to do this year is: Travel by water. The Stone Harbor Garden Club is offering a paddle-wheel boat tour 6 p.m. Sept. 11. They've chartered the Delta Lady, which will depart from Urie's dock on Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood. The duplicated Mississippi steamer carries a Dixieland Band in addition to its crew, evoking Mark Twain times. Candlelight and Caviar of Avalon will supply a chicken box supper served with a choice of wine or beer. Delores Mehan is chairing the tour and Mary Coffee (phone; 368-1589) is heading the telephone committee. She and Virginia Dilliplane (368-2051) will be happy to take reservations, which must be received by Sept. 3. Garden ClQb gals always get loads of help from their husbands when they organize a happening, when they plan one that involves a boat the volunteers are standing on each other's shoulers! DON'T FORGET the upcoming bulk-trash days for Seven Mile Island. In Avalon there will be three different days depending on location; On Sept. 16 it will be collected from 6th Street to the north side of 23rd. including Sunrise and Inlet Drives; on Sept. 23 they'll collect from the north side of 23rd to the North side of 41st; and on Sept. 30 collections will be made from the south side of 41st to the south side of 80th. including Bayberry. Pelican. Seagull. Flamingo, Heron. Greenan and Sunset Drives. In Stone Harbor collection will be made Tuesday. Sept. 3, only. Residents may place their discards neatly at the curbside the two days prior to collection. Call Jo Levison. 368-5627; Be Shissler. 368-5545; Marie Spence. 368-6541; Eileen Connor. 368-2362; or Betty White. 368-1720 now. People who love Casinoland say; "This is the fun way to go!" At 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. I 22. Dr. and Mrs. Harold B.
Evans of 9820 Corinthian Dr.. were astonished when 1 cars pulled up to their I home and discharged gals in flapper garb and similarly dressed gents. The group carried baskets of bubbly and gourmet goodies for a champagne breakfast to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Harold and Pauline Evans. It was a surprise arranged by Clara and Eddie Edmunds of Youngstown. N.Y., last May 16. On Aug. 21 six couples checked into the Shelter Haven Motel. They were: the Floyd Bradburys of PuA-to Rico. Lawrence Walshes of Burlington, Vt., M. E. Schluters of Buffalo. Archie Carbines of Pendleton. Ky., Charles Zimmermans of Clarence. N.Y. and charges d'affaires the Edmunds. THEY DIDN'T want to blow their cover, so they spent the afternoon hiding. They reserved a secluded table at the Golden Inn for dinner and emerged from their rooms next morning dressed in their John Held Jr. finery (much to the amazement of onlookers) and proceeded, en masse, to the Evans'. Sixteen of them have wintered together annually for many years and the an niversary celebration idea was cooked up in secret last winter. Thursday the official dinner was held at Wildwood Country Club with lunch following a golf match there next day. Friday night they dined at
Stone Harbor Yacht Club. • This bash might just continue 'til they migrate to Puerto Rico again. ANNE TOWNLEY of Court House, who tries hard to be the enfant terrible of the Keeping in Touch group of Stone Harbor, is actually one of its prime movers when it comes to morale building. The organization, like most others. loses some of its momentum and cohesion during summer months. On Aug. 21 Anne gave a luncheon in her House and Garden home on Steel Road, just for board members to relax and recharge their batteries. Small wonder Anne is a wheel in the Garden Club too. Over Bloody Marys, chicken with capers, slivered almonds and water chestnuts, fruit kebabs and sorbet the gals delighted in sequins of light bouncing off the swimming pool and esoteric flowering plants in the greenhouse which husband, Glenn, created for her. EVERYONE rejoiced that September, top favorite month and around here, is only days away and made plans for the KIT table at the annual Sea Mart sponsored by S.H. Women's Civic Club at 96th Street and the beach. Saturday. Aug.31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. KIT members have been saving all year for this White Elephant fund-raising (Page 27 Please)
