(From Page 28) an island issue. Plan to attend the hearings. The hearings are scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 10 p.m. today. Tomorrow, the hearings continue at 1 p.m. and will end at 8 p.m. ON A LIGHTER note, and just about anything is "lighter" than sewage and road problems, fleas are reaching their peak on the island. In this regard, I must pass along a helpful tidbit given to me by a Crest resident who demands to remain anonymous. To rid your seaside abode of the nasty critters without Doctor Talk VILLAS - Dr. Robert G. Beitman, specialist in internal medicine and digestive disorders in older patients, will be guest speaker at the Millman Senior's Club Inc.. 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at the Millman Civic Center, Bayshore Road. The public is invited.
risking chemical toxification yourself just plug a "night-light" into any wall outlet. Beneath the light, place a small dish of water which has been mixed with a bit of dish detergent. The fleas are attracted to the light, attempt to jump upon the light, obviously can't, and fall headlong into the soap-softened water and drown. It works. No chemicals, no sprays, just 50 to 60 fleas a night until they are gone. With an idea like this, it is a shame my tipster wishes to remain anonymous. I now have her working on a solution to the stray cat problem in Wildwood. I'll keep you posted. TAKE NOTE. You can no longer travel from Hildreth to Cresse Avenue along Susquehanna Avenue. Effective immediately, the one-block section between Cresse and Hildreth that was a "two-way" street yesterday is now a "one-way" DO NOT ENTER street for those motorists traveling south past Burger King towards Wildwood Crest. While the change may pose a bit of an inconvenience for those of us who
enjoy the little short-cut to avoid the traffic light at Park and Hildreth, it is, in the long run, a good decision. Far too frequently the two-way situation posed two vehicles attempting to squeeze past each other in a space that barely exceeded the width of a single lane. It was only a matter of time until a fender bender occurred. It's good to see preventive planning and not a decision based upon one too many accidents. IT SHOULD be noted that Rev. Charles Rowe is observing his 15th year as pastor of the Crest Community Church. More so, it should be noted that Rev. , Rowe has contributed 15 years to the betterment of our island through his civic concern, sincere desire to serve, and genuine compasi sion for all. Since his arrival in our area from Washington D C. in 1970, his efforts have impacted upon many and his cordiality has been felt by us all. His growing congregation is a tribute to his dedication and we wish him well in the years to come. LABOR DAY is almost upon us, but not to fear, there is still plenty to do along our sandy shores. September 7 is the day slated for the Senior Drum and Bugle Corps competition held annually. The event, part of the American Legion convention, will begin at 10 a.m. at Maxwell Field. Several of the country's finest drum and bugle corps will be featured in the competition. Plan to attend this enjoyable Saturday morning competition. September 21 will find antique cars lined side by side along our famed "wooden walk" beginning at Schellenger Avenue. After the show, the cars will parade along Ocean Avenue for all to view. If you are interested in entering this interesting event, your vehicle must be older than 25 years. Call 522-1407 for further information. The William Penn Cat Club's "Cat Show" is returning to Wildwood Sept. 28 and 29. Its spring show was such a success that the club has opted to return for a return engagement. In addition td^ the categories established for "professional" cats, the club has again created show classes for household pets. If you are interested in entering your favorite domestic feline please call 267-4828. I
