By Libby Demp Forrest SEPTEMBER is drawing near - and thus, another summer has gone by faster than a shooting star. It always seems to us that summer goes more swiftly than any of the other seasons. While late August - early September offer the lure of serene beaches and fewer beachcombers, we always feel a little sad to see friends and neighbors heading for home. Labor Day weekend is usually a more restful holiday than some of the others we enjoy during the course of the year. To the youngsters, Labor Day weekend signifies the end of summer fun. Time to trudge back to school, you know. + + + WE ALWAYS liked this little passage by Haydn S. Pearson that describes the first day of school and we'd like to share it with you: "Mr. Shakespeare was only partially correct in his famous description of a very young man on his way to school. All schoolboys do not go unwillingly when it's time for teacher to ring the bell for the first day of a new term. Most boys and girls in spite of some expected talk to the contrary look forward to the organized routine of working and playing together." While summer is winding down, we enjoy a different pace when dining out. Here are some favorite restaurants of ours that are tasteful anytime: GREEN CUISINE. These late days of summer, The Green Cuisine is a great, lit-

tle stopping off place to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The exotic crispy salads, gourmet sandwiches and fruit and yogurt drinks make good company during a summer meal. Located at 302 96th Street, the Green Cuisine has a menu full of good things to eat such as Zucchini Mushroom Melt, a special kind of sandwich ; Greek Pita, zesty combination of feta cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce and Greek dressing; and Jamaican Joy, fresh pineapple half cut into chunks and served in its shell, scoop of cottage cheese or frozen yogurt, whole banana, whole orange and seasonal additions. A dessert favorite is Katz's Gourmet Cheese Cake. *** SCRENCI'S. Located at 6208 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City, Screnci's serves a full course dinner for $8.95 until 6 p.m. and it is always a delicious selection. While Screnci's puts the emphasis on Italian cooking, the seafood is worth looking into when you step into this comfortable and relaxing family-owned restaurant. The Screnci family are great cooks and hosts, and they enjoy the loyal following of customers who regularly find their way here to enjoy great food. Screnci's famous seafood combination platter includes lobster tail, shrimp, fish in season, crabmeat and scallops. SEASHORE SALAD BAR. When you want to go lightly, the Seashore Salad Bar, on the Circle Mall, at 21st and Dune Drive, Avalon is the perfect port of call. The All You Can Eat Salad Bar at affordable prices is perfect for weight watchers who want to enjoy the freshest veggies of

the season. You fix what you want, adding I the special dressings. There are over 25 different salad toppings to enjoy at the I Seashore Salad Bar. Home-style soups, I sandwiches and desserts are available dai- I ly from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Take-out too. I GOLDEN INN. The Golden Inn is a first I class hotel and conference center on the I Oceanfront at 78th Street, Avalon where I the chef turns out superlative food. The menus are immense. Choices range I from traditional foods to exotic cuisine I especially prepared to your order. Our I very own favorite is the Veal Piquante, I milk-fed veal medallion sauteed in lemon butter. Our favorite dessert? It's always I a difficult decision - but the chocolate I Bavarian cream pie is unbeatable. Open I year round. THE WINDRIFT. Located at 80th and I Beach, Avalon, The Windrift gives dining I out all the best flavors every meal of the I day. You can start the day at the Windrift I with a hearty breakfast, and/or enjoy lun- I cheon, and of course, dinner along with I entertainment. The Chicken Parmigiana, Prime Ribs of I Beef and Broiled Seafood Combo are good I choices from the ample menu. There's I entertainment Thursday, Friday, Satur- I day, Sunday and Monday with Belinda and I Black Tye. D.J. "Radar' provides con- I tinuous music at the piano during the din- I ner hour. D.J.Ted Steinmetz is on deck I Tues. and Wed. night.
