Coast Guard Sets Open House Sept. 7

CAPE MAY - The U.S. Coast Guard will host an open house 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at the piers at the Coast Guard Training Center. The demonstrations are being held in conjunction with the other activities planned for the Seafood Festival. Units participating will include the small boats of Station Cape May. the 82-foot patrol boats Point Baton and Point Franklin. the 180-foot buoy tender Hornbeam, and a helicopter from Air Station Cape May. There will also be visiting aboard commerccial fishing vessels moored at the piers for public viewing. SPECIAL EVENTS dur ing the open house will begin at 10 a.m. There will be a memorial service to those lost at sea. followed by a blessing of the fleet. The Coast Guard Training Christmas Craft Show WILDWOOD - A Christmas craft celebration, with hundreds of crafts to be displayed and sold, will be held 10 a.m. -7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, in Wildwood Convention Hall. The show is free, and there will be a mail box so the youngsters can send their letters to Santa early. Door prizes will be awarded every hour. For further information, call Chrissy, 453-0010.

Center Band and Color Guard will perform in conjunction with the services. Teams of four will compete in a survival suit race at 10:15. The race is to familiarize people with the survival suit, to demonstrate the benefits it can provide on the seas, and to have some fun. At approximately 11 a.m., the helicopter and small boat will provide a rescue demonstraiton in the harbor area adjacent to the piers. The public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the Coast Guard. There is ample parking at the base, located at the end of Pennsylvania Avenue. ^ CATERING I TO YOU I
