Muziani Backs New Threshold TRENTON - New Jersey residents are still paying the highest automobile insurance rates in the country, despite the significant automobile insurance reform measures signed into law by Governor Kean over the past several years. Assemblyman Guy Muziani. One major outcome of this reform provides motorists with the opportunity to select options and higher deductibles in an effort to reduce automobile insurance coverage in return for lower premiums, Muziani said. IN AN EFFORT to lower New Jersey motorists' automobile insurance rates Muziani has co-sponsored i legislation A-534 to place controls on medical care and legal action, he said. The bill eliminates the recently optional tort thresholds of $200 and $1,500. which are combined with a verbal threshold for persons injured in automobile accidents, and replaces them with a complete verbal threshold. Muziani said. The verbal threshold provides that no lawsuit may be instituted for pain and suffering unless the injured party has incurred a serious injury, defined as one "resulting in death, serious impairment of body function or permanent serious disfigurement." | Muziani said. Premiums in New Jersey will always be among the highest in the country as long as the state has a system that encourages nusiance suits.
