Ocean City Councilman William Meis will not have \to face a recall vote in the November general election. The Citizens Committee for Responsible Government has issued a relese fhat they will take their time and "allow more voters in the Second Ward to express their opinion by signing, or not signing, the recall petition." Some observers say this means the committee, which wants to unseat Meis. is having trouble getting signatures. PEOPLE ARE confused about the "Blue Laws" and don't seem to think Meis' being recalled will make much difference . Meis says he always opposed Sunday closings but promised not to try to get the "Blue Law" repealed. Anothersign of lack of interest. and a sign that the times they are a-changing, ' is that after seven meetings only 900 people attended. Most groups invited did not even come to the meetings to give their side of the question. The big problem with recalls. and other government interaction, is that it costs ? money to go through the process Meis says he wants . the city to pay his legal fees. i COLD DOG Stand? It 's an old story. You have inspectors and they have to in- . spect. Now, you may not be J able to get a hot dog at Bob's, a beach stand in Ocean City. ) City Fire Inspector Don Eisenhardt found the stand lacked fire suppression and exhaust systems and a fire extinguisher Owner Boh Harbaugh countered, saying there was / no room for the system He also said that the type of exhaust system required "would literally pull your hair through the roof " Most interesting of all is . that no customers are in the building, as all come to the stand, get their food, and leave. This is what you can describe as really hot news. IS THIS Fare'' Did you ever try to get a taxi in Ocean City'' They seem almost non-existent. Some hotels say it is almost impossible to get a taxi on weekends or late at night Yellow Cab. which sends most if its Ocean City taxis to AC. says the demand for service in Ocean City doesn't justify more cabs in service here But a proposal before City Council would require that services be maintained on a 24-hour basis and on Sundays.
