By Libby Demp Forrest BACK TO SCHOOL time is here again. We're going to find the beaches emptier, the boardwalks quieter and the lifestyle less hurried. The natives are rubbing their eyes and asking where the summer went. September at the shore can be one of the most pleasant months of all — warm water temperatures, beaches bleached by the summer sun and no long lines at the supermarket. ♦ * * With September comes the anticipation of autumn. Evening will soon have a tinge of chill. This is a leisured time compared to the hustle bustle of summertime. The shadows are beginning to deepen as the afternoon passes. There's no longer the drawn-out interlude between dusk and darkness. SEPTEMBER is a beautiful month. A favorite time of ours. How about you? * * * H As we start to think about bidding au revoir to summer and a hail to autumn, this interlude between seasons is a good time to take stock of what needs doing for the months ahead. Now don't get us wrong, we're not saying winter is moving in yet, but on the other hand, a little planning never hurt a cause, did it? * * * As we edge toward autumn, there's no time like right now for going out and enjoying the local restaurants. Here are several to choose from: Captain's Table. Come on over to the

Captain's Table Restaurant, on the Beach at Hollywood Avenue, Wildwood Crest where the scenic atmosphere, food and service are outstanding. A whole steamed stuffed lobster costs $14.95 (the average lobster weighs a pound), and the other menu choices are as affordable. Breakfast is served daily from 9 a.m. The dining room windows boast views that serve as the perfect backdrop for your dining pleasure. Reservations are suggested — telephone 522-2939. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m., dinner from 4:30 p.m. * • • TOP OF THE MARQ. Labor Day is over, but the good times continue at the Top of the Marq, between Ocean and Decatur on Beach Drive, Cape May. The fine dining, dancing and entertainment goes on throughout the year. The First Seating entrees is just made for early birds — complimentary appetizer, dessert and glass of wine are included with dinner. All this in addition to relish tray, choice of soup or house salad, potato, vegetable du jour, hot rolls with butter and choice of beverage. Served daily, First Seating is available only at 6 p.m. • * * BACK YARD. Enjoy the garden atmosphere of the Back Yard restaurant where the outdoors intermingles with imaginative cooking cooked to your order. Located at 222 81st Street, Stone Harbor, the Fish du Jour is always freshly caught and prepared to catch all the

goodness fish lovers seek. The Fruitti de Mer, sauteed lobster, crab and scallops in cream sauce with lemon and thyme is a delightful seafood extravaganza. The Veal and Shellfish, rolled veal stuffed with shrimp and crab with a light herb sauce is a recommended choice. BRIAN'S PLACE. Dine in high style at Brian's Place, 2408 Dune Drive, Avalon, where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in a delightful romantic atmosphere. A crock of the old fashioned clam chowder, crab bisque or soup du jour is a tasty starter. The Fisherman's Platter including lobster tail, filet of fish, shrimp and scallops — is a favorite of ours. We also enjoy the Rib-Eye Steab Sandwich with melted cheese, sauteed mushrooms and onions when we want a hearty sandwich. There are lots of choices available to fit all size appetites. ... SPRINGER'S. Springer's has been spoiling ice cream fans for more than 50 years, and customers still drive to Springer's at 9420 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor from just about everywhere. Shakes, sundaes, splits and sodas are crowd pieasers, from a choice of 40 flavors. Just go down the ice cream menu and make your decision, and treat yourself to a fantastic ice cream dream while the season is still underway.
