A group of liberal Ocean City businessmen (a small group. I should add) is making plans to change the laws so that beer and wine can be served in. the city. Their plan is to make Ocean City an artist-writ-ers community, with sidewalk cafes. The idea is that artists-writers like the shore and would come here during the Winter. OCEAN CITY Businessman John Baratta says Ocean City is having "problems with progress." The problems are: — Conflicts between downtown merchants and boardwalk merchants. — Conflicts between those who want to hold on to a three-month Summer season and those who want an extended season. —Baratta wants to make the city year-around. He also wants to see a modern shopping mall on Asbury Avenue. THAT'S A positive idea. The famous father of positive thinking. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. spoke in Ocean City at the OC Tabernacle. It must work, because Dr Peale looks and feels great at 88. and doesn't seem to be slowing down. He believes that Christianity and positive think ing can be used to solve anyproblem. and that most problems are caused bywrong thinking. His books still sell in the millions and he has a new book out soon, entitled "Why Some Positive Thinkers Get Powerful Results" There is hope for all of us Dr Peale started out as a reporter for the Morning Republican in Findlay. Ohio Bl.l'E LAW vote We can look forward to a long Winter of discontent over the "Blue Law" changes. The city council will put a binding referendum on the Nov 3rd ballot The choice will be bet everything open Sunday or a law with nine ex-

i ceptions, such as allowing the sale of food and drink, operation of hotels and firms doing emergency work, and other commercial operations that are more or less necessary. Wonderland Pier owner Roy Gillian said he may run for mayor on a platform to open things up on Sundays. Mayor Jack Bittner. who is expected to run for reelection, would be for "Blue Laws". However, Gillian has told some he was being funny when he said he would run for mayor. SECOND WARD Councilman William Meis who has been getting the most heat because he is accused of supporting the move to repeal the "Blue Laws", is facing a recall. But we can't find a lot of people who are excited about this. Meis believes his stand was not understood, and in a letter to voters said: "If you oppose the "Blue Laws" you are called irreligious... I am a Godfearing man and attend church regularly... I am strongly in favor of some type of restrictive regulation. I am strongly opposed to the sale of and distribution of alcoholic beverages here... The Recall Petition will not slop me from publicly stating my position on this or any other public matters ." OCEAN CITY Taber nacle Assn President William l.uff says that if Ocean City doesn't reinstate some type of "Blue Law", the next step will be the sale of alcohol "People say the "Blue Laws' and aleohol are unrelated But once there are no Blue Laws' to shoot at. people will start shooting at the alcohol laws " WEIRD TAN: They held the Best Tan Contest at the Music Pier Mickey Stark of Ocean City won the "Palest Ring Finger " SENIOR WINNER Ronnie Novickas of Ocean City was crowned Ms. Stainton Senior Citizen JEFFREY G1ANNIM of Ocean Cily. won the surf fishing tournament for young fishermen R-9 years old This is an annual event, sponsored by the Ocean City Recreation Department TO COME... matchpoint duplicate bridge game at 7:30 p.m.. every Thursday at the Community Center.
