WILDWOOD m L MERCHANTS*!

b m The Wildwoods } ~ t f y Thomas Parsons I A l 889-0137(^5^)^

Thursday, Sept. f» was a "big day" for the members of the Wildwood Crest Fire Department. It was on this day that they made settlement on the land recently purchased at Rambler and Pacific Avenues. This settlement brings the new fire house one step closer to reality. The acquisition was largely possible through the professional assistance

of l.illian llickey and staff of the Crest Branch of the First National Bank of Toms River According to Fire Chief Gus Olson. First National Bank was extremely cooperative, helpful, and most aware of the community service it was performing in granting the loan to the fire department. A "round of applause" should lie afforded the bank and its personnel

for their cooperation to the fire department for forging ahead with the best for the community at heart. ONE NOTE concerning the fire department of which you may not be aware. The Wildwood ("rest Fire Department is one of the few all volunteer fire departments remaining. All of the very expensive equipment necessary to serve and protect the com-

; munity is paid for by the ; various fund-raising aci tivities of the organization. The 45 men who comprise ; the department along with f the supportive auxiliary organization not only give I of their time to coordinate f the fund-raising efforts, but • remain on call 24 hours a day. 365 days a year simply to insure the protection and > well being of the residents of the borough Not only should they be commended, they should be supported! Remember, tax dollars don't buy the equipment for the Crest Fire Department, your support through donation does. SPEAKING OF fund raisers, one of the most successful programs is returning once again to Wildwood's Convention Hall. It is the Burdette Tomlin Champagne Evening. featuring the New Jersey Pops Orchestra under the direction of Michael fiuglio. This year, this excellent event is featuring an added attraction with the scheduled performance of the Westminster College Choir from Princeton. Having attended events past, it is hard to imagine the affair being any better, but the addition of the Westminster Choir promises to do just that! Tickets have recently gone on sale and if you are planning to attend, better hurry to secure tickets. This event is always a sellout ! The evening is planned for Oct. 12 and tickets maybe reserved by calling either 522-4300 or 884-5400. You may also pick the tickets up at any of the branches of Midlantic Bank, which serves as cosponsor of the annual event LAST WEEK I mentioned three birthdays Simple task. This week 1 would like to correct the three birthdays mentioned last week. First, the mistake that was my fault I incorrectly had Ryan Burns entering the second grade at Philip Baker Wrong!

Ryan just turned 5 years old and will be entering kindergarten this fall. He is the son of Chuck Susie Bums. Secondly, I have known Grover Bradshaw for over a decade. I know that his first name is not "Grocer." This error belongs to the typesetter and I apologize for the abuse he has been forced to endure from those who now prefer to dub him "Grocer." Lastly, and fortunately not an error but an update concerns the filings — all THREE of them. Mom. Dad, and the new filing. James J. filing Jr. Two days after I submitted my column, Lynn filing (Mom) went into labor and Jim filing (Dad) informed me that my column was already dated. Congratulations on the birth of their first, a 6-pound-plus baby boy! WILL NEXT summer find Rio Grande Boulevard with one less gas station and one more franchise restaurant operation''' Rumor has it that an East Coast (Philadelphia to be exact) franchise restaurant chain is negotiating to buy a local service station for the pur pose of redoing the building to the firm's restaurant "specs". Which service station9 I can't let the cat out of the bag just yet, but there is not a whole lot to choose from. Take a guess! Answer in a following column as negotiations progress. NORTH WILDWOOD

School District is announcing the hiring of a new Industrial Arts teacher at Margaret Mace School. Thomas Ottaviano, former Vo-Tech instructor, will replace Joe Montemurro, who resigned to accept a position as director of the County's Cold Spring Village project. Ottaviano, a North Wildwood resident, is also known for coaching the Wildwood High School baseball team. We wish him well in his new position. In Wildwood Crest, Philip Baker School began classes without the services of Florence (Twiford) Logan. That's news, as Mrs. Logan has been a "regular" at Philip Baker for many, many years. Her services will be sadly missed by many, but on a happier note, all who know Mrs. Logan wish her well in her retirement. JIM BOLA.ND, a realtor associate at the Calloway Agency, is proudly telling his co-workers of his son's pending wedding. James III is planning a spring. 1986 wedding to Janice Bauerline. a Middle Township special educa tion instructor. Jim III is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and is employed by the Defense Department in Washington D C Prior to joining the Calloway Agency, Jim II was also employed by the Department of Defense until his retirement and relocation to our "sandy shores" (Page 23 Please)
