(From Page 22) THIS PAST week saw several business organizations calling their memberships to emergency meetings to discuss the water/pollution situation throughout the Wildwoods. In what will certainly be a gesture followed in the other communities. Crest Mayor Frank McCall called for the establishment of an environmental commission to address the issue of environmental quality. Many years ago, then Wildwood Commissioner Wilbur Ostrander was one of the motivating forces behind a fledgling group of environmentalists who were concerned about the possible contamination of our ocean waters. His efforts with the group S.T.O.P. were lauded by Congressman Bill Hughes at a dinner I attended several years ago. It's real-

ly a shame that his warnings were not heeded years ago. YEARS AGO. Helen Sciarra led many a fight to inform the public on the dangers of our inadequate sewage systems along Five Mile Beach. For some reason, again, the sage words of wisdom went unheeded. Hopefully, some of our island's pioneers of the environmental issues will resurface and assist the newer organizations in the fight to correct some wrongs, so that we are not confronted again with a potentially devasting problem. Bucks alone will not solve the problems; answers and a cooperative attitude will. Perhaps this off-season will produce some of the necessary answers and the season of 1986 will be a positive one for us all.
