An Indian Summer t Fete Set Oct. 4-6
OCEAN CITY - A downtown block party, boardwalk seafood festival and table sale, treasure hunt, over-40 run and many other attractions are all ! part of this resort's Indian Summer Weekend set Oct. 4-6. The event, held for the fourth time this year, is the city's attempt to introduce visitors to the pleasures of autumn at the seashore. THE BLOCK party will be held from 6th Street to 11th Street on Asbury Avenue Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will include a new car show, antique auto show, ethnic foods festival, 1 games for children, pony rides and unusual entertainment. A large crafts festival will stretch between 6th and 11th Streets and merchants will offer specials in front of their stores. Among the entertainment will be juggling. Indian dancing, a fortune teller, automated robots, acrobats, dancers and singers. The avenue will be lined with food Stalls including a Greek Festival at 9th Street. A SEAFOOD Festival is set for Oct. 5-6 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Mooriyn Terrace. Table sales with end-of-the- ! season specials from Boardwalk merchants will also be offered on those day* On Sunday (Oct. 6) there
l will be three events at the Boardwalk. An over-40s I three-mile run begins 10 s a.m. at the Music Pier, with registration 9:30 a.m. I There will be no entry fees i and medals will be awarded in the following age categories for men and women : 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59 and over 60 years old. A treasure hunt for children and families is set for ll:30a.m. infrontof the Music Pier. Registration is 11 a.m. No entry fees. At 1 p.m. there will be a sand sculpting contest at the 10th Street Beach with prizes awarded in various age categories, no entry fees. A free trolley will transport visitors between the Block Party and Boardwalk on Saturday. The Indian Summer weekend is sponsored by v the city and the Retail Mer- ^ chants Association with promotional monies provided by the Ocean City Tourism Commission. An Adult Ballet Class CAPE MAY — The city is offering a new dance class Ballet For Adults, as part of the fall recreation schedule. Participants will be able to enjoy movement and music through a classic art form which will combine complete body toning with a study of basic and intermediate elements of ballet. This program will be taught by Elizabeth Scallergood. who studied ballet in New York City with Mme. Chamee of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and more recently at the Ballet Studio in Philadelphia taught by former members of the Pennsylvania Ballet. This class will be held at the Franklin Street Civic Center Thursday 8-9 p.m. More information on the class, which starts Oct. 3, can be obtained by calling the Department of Civic Affairs at 884-8411. ext. 20 or 27.
