Festival Kickoff Friday Auction, Preview Reception
STONE HARBOR - A day-long goose hunting trip in Maryland or a champagne cocktail hour cruise in nearby back bays aboard the private 80-foot yacht "Electra" will be two of the many art and adventure items auctioned Friday night before the two-day New Jersey Wings 'n Water Festival. The benefit wildlife auction and preview reception will take place at the Wetlands Institute under the Big Top Tent, with the
reception beginning at 6 p.m. and the auction at 8 p.m. THE PREVIEW reception, prepared by •The Gourmet Group", will feature hot and cold hors d'oeuvres including stuffed cherry tomatoes, spinach balls, wrapped asparagus, hot pita toast, stuffed celery, cheese on pumpernickel bread and zucchini quiche. THE RECEPTION will provide an excellent opportunity to meet and chat with many local and nationally recognized personalities. Among the noted VIP's expected will be Mayors Voll, Hand and Slone of Middle Township, Stone Harbor, and Avalon respectively. Other local dignitaries, as well as state and federal representatives are expected to attend. World renowned carvers and artists from Maine to Key West. Florida, who will be displaying their works during the Festival, will also be on hand to meet wjth guests, and include John Sheeler, Gen. Chester B. deGavre, and William Goebel. Ken Gosner, a zoologist from Rutgers, who is nationally renowned for his illustrations of some 20 books and magazines, is also expected to attend the reception. Entertainment during the reception will be provided in the Marshview
Hall by Mark Stewart, a classical guitarist from St. Michaels, MD. The highlight of the evening, the auction to benefit the Wetlands Institute and its programs, will be "cried" by a professional auctioneer from Hatboro, PA. TWO MAGNIFICENT prints by Tom Hunter, New Jersey duck stamp artist, have been donated for the festival auction. These col- I or prints have become priz- I ed collectors' items and j their values continue to rise. In addition, a decoy from the William Veasey Studio, a wood duck print, a oneweek stay at a Beach Villa in Treasure Cay. Abaco. Bahamas, an Art Lamay print of mallards. "Double Trouble", dinner for six at the Lobster House in Cape May and many other items will be auctioned. The Friday evening reception and auction are open to the public, however, a limited number of tickets will be available at the door, and reservations are suggested. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the Wetlands Institute. 5-Mile Run AVALON - A five-mile run for the Wings "n Water Festival will be featured early Saturday morning. 'J The 8:30 a.m. run. which 5 will take off and end at the i.. Avalon Community Hall, ■p will circle the streets of old •p Avalon. £ Entry fees are $5 prior to 7 Friday. Sept. 20. and 57 on race day.
