Museum Joins in Festival

The Philadelphia Maritime Museum is joining the Wings 'N Water Festival of the Wetlands Institute in their celebration of New Jersey's special environment. Roger Allen. Curator For Water Craft, John Brady, the Museum's boatbuilder, volunteer members of the Traditional Small Craft Association, along with other Museum personnel will be there to assist with

an in-water exhibit at the back of the Institute on Scotch Bonnet Creek and to tell visitors about the Museum which is dedicated to the preservation of the maritime history of the Delaware River and Bay and New Jersey. Five boats from the Museum's collection will be put on display in the water and a 12 foot preWorld War 1 duck hunting boat will be at the booth

There are also two New Jersey railbird skiffs, a sailing Garvey and I a 12 foot "Tootie Neff" sneakbox. Visitors will be able to I buy plans from which to ' build boats. If they are not confident in their own ; abilities, the Philadelphia Maritime Museum's Workshop on the Water, at Penn's Landing, will be conducting boat building classes over 6 weekends beginning on Friday, October 4 through the weekend of November 22. [ CG Band [ To Give | Concerts AVALON - The United 1 States Coast Guard Training Center Band will present two concerts in Avalon and Stone Harbor Saturday. during the Wings 'n Water Festival. Performing under the baton of Petty officer First Class Bob Carson, the band is composed of recruits who are undergoing eight weeks of rigorous training. Upon graduation, they will join Coast Guard units around the world. Concerts will be held in "I Avalon Community Hall at id 10 a m and on the Stone =3 Harbor Beach at 96th Street at 2 p.m. Saturday. The training center is located in Cape May City AN*!IH-52A helicopter and patrol boat will demonstrate rescue techniques including picking up persons in the water by landing in the water and by using the helicopter's hoist. The demonstrations will be on Avalon Beach at 30th Street at noon and Stone Harbor Beach at 96th Street at 1 p.m. Saturday. The rescue helicopter will be on display in the parking lot next to Avalon Comql munity Hall at 29th Street J from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Craft Show At Women's Civic Center

The Women's Civic Club, 96th and the beach, Stone Harbor, will be the home of the new Gifts and Crafts Show during the Wings 'n Water Festival. Among the gifts and crafts featured will be factory made decoys and gifts with a duck motif by Donald Chittick, of Wooden Duck Gifts, Skippack, PA. Hand painted gifts for the home will be on display and for sale by Jennifer Pierson of Pottersville, NJ

FROM THE local scene, Sue Hobbs of the Whale's Tale in Cape May will display her unique collection of worldwide shell samples. The Wetlands Institute Tidepool Shop will also have a table. Shrimpwiches will be available along with an assortment of beverages and desserts. The Gifts and Crafts Show will be open 10-5 on Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday.
