Retrievers Slated For Trials

STONE HARBOR - Retriever in-the-water demonstrations will again be a feature of the New Jersey Wings 'n Water Festival Saturday and Sunday. This event celebrates the natural coastal attractions of Cape May County, such as duck hunting and water recreation. A world class decorative bird carving show, decoy and wildlife art and photography shows are some of the other attractions planned. THE RETRIEVER demonstration will feature Chipper, a 4-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever, and Cody a 10-year-old Golden retriever. Their owners, Bob and Dee Bailey of Woodbine, will be

showing the dog's hunting form in mini trials conducted from the salt marsh to the tidal creek directly behind the Wetlands Institute, the festival headquarters. Chipper has her Working Dog ■ Certificate and Companion Dog Certificate,

while Cody also holds a Working Dog Certificate, is a field trial and companion dog, and will simulate a working situation. The retriever demonstrations will be held at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during the Festival.

Whales Subjects For Slide Lecture

STONE HARBOR - Dr. Ralph Eschelman, a noted authority on whales, will give a lecture and slide presentation as part of the festivities planned during the Wings 'N Water

festival, to be held this weekend. Dr. Eschelman is the current director of the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, MD. THE LECTURE will be held 8: 15 Saturday night, at the Maris Spella Church, 50th and 3rd Avenue, Avelon. On an historical note, the lecture on whales should be particularly interesting to New Jerseyites since migratory whales once inhabited Delaware Bay, spurring whalers to settle throughout Cape May County. Egret Is Feature Of Poster STONE HARBOR - The Great Egret, which can be observed at the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary during its mating season, has been depicted by New Jersey artist Michael Budden to be the first collector's poster, representing the spirit of the New Jersey Wings N Water Festival to be held Saturday and Sunday. Budden. a resident of Roebling, N.J. was last year's recipient of the "Best of Show Artist" award dur ing the annual festival which celebrates New Jersey's concern for its coastal regions and wildlife. APPROXIMATELY 1.000 posters will be available for sale to visitors at a modest cost. Proceeds will benefit the Wetlands Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public understanding and conceyi for the Garden State's coastal life and environments. The festival is headquartered at the Institute here. Posters will also be available for sale at three galleries in Stone Harbor: William Ris Galleries, Sandpiper Art Gallerie and the Olive Tree.
