Dear Dr Beitman: My arthritis acts up occasionally. at times it hits me in the lower back, making it difficult to bend over. It is also painful periodically. I have joint and muscle pain. It does not seem to affect my hips. I get some relief by taking two aspirins with milk at night and another two Extra-Strengh Tylenol each morning. Medications which do not seem to help me are Motrin. Indocin. and Feldine THE SAME symptoms happen with my fingers They are painful and I cannot tighten my fist, coins can slip through Sometimes my middle and forefinger lock, for example when I am peeling vegetables or holding a knife I then force them open with my other hand.
