By Libby Demp Forrest LATE SEPTEMBER and there's a nip in the air. It's time to start preparing for the colder days ahead on the calendar. As the countryside takes on the colors of autumn, this is a good time of year for a jaunt to see the varied colors of the changing landscape. Now is the time to be readying the storm windows and doing the other chores of the season. We take the blankets out of the closets and put them through the washing machine, then give them a good airing on the clothesline. We try to hold off turning up the thermostat, but there'll come a time sooner or later when we'll have to do it. • • • <j THE TIME of the Harvest Moon will occur this Saturday. This is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. It casts a brilliant and sometimes eerie light across the landscape. During days past, farmers harvesting by the light of the September full moon would work longer into the night spurred on by the brighter night. * * * As we move into October, the days will be growing even shorter. Alas, alas, but the colors of autumn will become more vibrant to enjoy. When it comes to enjoying the best of the season, we'd like to recommend these restaurants : CRYSTAL ROOM. Nothing in Cape May is quite like the Crystal Room at the Atlas Motor Inn, 1035 Beach Drive near \.m

Madison Avenue. Still the town's traditional spot for dining and entertainment, it stands alone for polished service and food excellence. The Sunday Champagne Brunch for $10.95 includes everything your appetite could desire. Enjoy eggs, bacon, chipped beef, bagels and lox. stuffed capon, short ribs, desserts and much, much more. Dancing entertainment is as good as ever Wed. -Sat. when "Now and Then" provides the musical magic. * * * PETER SHIELDS. Just down the beach, at 1301 Beach Drive, and Trenton Avenue, The Peter Shields Restaurant is a special Cape May experience. Housed in a beautiful Cape May mansion, it offers luncheon, dinners, and Sunday Buffet Brunch. The piano bar has become a romantic backdrop for the restful seashore atmosphere. Italian specialties as well as seafood, steaks, chops, and even children's choices are freshly prepared in the elegant style of the mansion's past. A grand dame of the beachfront, the Peter Shields is also a culinary celebration. SUMMERS. Summers sparkles with a flair of a seashore setting that is lighthearted and friendly during autumn afternoons and evenings. Noted for it's raw bar. Summers is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday thru Sunday. Entertainment is provided Wed. and Thurs. eves by Bobby Harris at the piano. Mitch Avery is at the piano Friday and Saturday evenings. Located at Beach and Decatur Sts., Cape May, the seafood saloonery serves distinctive beverages to whet the appetite. BONANZA. Open all year at the
