Approximately 300 patrons enjoyed the third annual Middle Township Chamber of Commerce seafood dinner at the Methodist Church Social Hall, Court House, Sept. 21. The chamber thanks Gene DeGenova and Bob Wilson for the use of the Bellevue's kitchen and for receiving and storing the food needed in preparation of the dinner. A special thank you also goes to Dick and Jean Haefner of Mr. Donut. The chamber also thanks Rose Johnson. Debbie Klug. Bob Hodges. Frank Ross. Alan Morris. Ted Croitor and his wife Diane, Charlie Raff. Bruce Doherty and his daughter Molly. Ted Roman. Betty Jean Jesuncosky. Jim Dramis. Gary Rudy. Tom Repici. and Joe Brennan for volunteering their time in the preparation * and serving of the dinners. Johnson and Klug coordinated the event. TERRY BRADWAY is / the new athletic director at 1 Middle Township High 1 1 School. He is a graduate of Holy Spirit High School in I Absecon and received his I bachelor's and master's degrees from Glassboro State College. He played three years varsity and one year baseball at Trenton State in addition to coaching the baseball and football I teams at Holy Spirit High School while attending Glassboro. His first exposure to the "Big Ten" program was when he became assistant ' coach of the University of Cincinnatti's wide receivers. He was also a running back coach for the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kingsj port. N.Y. I BRADWAY THEN got out of coaching and became a teacher at the Alternative I School in Crest Haven Complex for a while During his last year there, he became involved with the newly created United States Football League and worked weekends as a part-time SJI scout for the Philadel- — phia-Baltimore Stars He
was assistant director of player personnel for the past two years. "I am looking forward to working with the coaches at MTHS and learning the various aspects of the Cape Atlantic League's coaching and recruiting system." commented Bradway. Both Bradway and his wife, Kathy, are pro football enthusiasts. He always intends to remain involved in athletics. The Bradways reside in Marmora. We wish our friends Clarence and Georgiana Davies of Mayville a very "Happy 46th Wedding Anniversary f ' THE MIDDLE Township Recreation Department will be sponsoring a ski trip to Quebec City, Canada. Feb. 13 to 17. The price of the tickets includes round trip bus transportation, lodging, several meals, a visit to the Quebec Winter Carnival, and skiing at Mount St. Anne. For more information and reservations call 465-3520. The "Open House" held at Elementary School 1 on the evening of Sept. 24 was a huge success. The students' parents and guardians first met in the school's allpurpose room before proceeding to their classrooms. The adults had the opportunity to exam their children's textbooks and learning environment as well as to meet their teachers. Charlotte Harmon is the school's principal. Robert Metz is the vice principal THE ANNUAL "Back to School Night" at Elementary School 3 Oct. 1 was well attended by the school's fourth and fifth graders' parents and guardians. After a brief presentation by the P.T.A.. the school's staff was introduced. Parents then had the opportunity to visit their children's classrooms, where teachers presented an overall view of the areas of study for the year. Special area teachers (art. gym, vocal music, and instrumental music) were available to explain their programs to parents. The school's gifted/talented and State Compensatory Education teachers were also available. Henry J. Kobik is the school's principal THE LOCAL school board approved the following 1985/1986 district objects: Elementary School 3: By June. 1986 - as a result of an intensive vocal music program in Grade 4- 80 percent of the students (81 students) will demonstrate increased ability to understand and identify the concepts of tempo. direction dynamics, form, style, and the correlation of art and music in active and still visuals by scoring a minimum of 75 percent correct on the textbook and publisher's test. THE MIDDLE School: By June 30. 1986 . 82 eighth grade students enrolled in , eighth grade Language Arts classes will show an average of 5 percent growth in the percent as evidenced in pre/post comparisons of the 1984/1985 writing com-
ponent of the New Jersey High School Proficiency Test. High School: By May, 1986. ninth graders at Middle Township High School (217 pupils) will have completed an intensive program of Library Skills instruction led by the Librarian and integrated with the Social Studies curriculum and will have achieved growth and mastery of the written proficiencies as exhibitedc by an increase in 10 percent correct as evidenced in pre/post comparisons on the "Test of Library Skills" Level 3. Edith Ludlam is the coordinator of supplemental instruction for the entire local school district. KEN NORBURY of Green Creek became the new office manager of AAA Shore Motor Club office in Burleigh Sept. 26. He is replacing Peggie Bieberbach, who transferred to the newly created sales department in the Burleigh office as a sales representatiave. Norbury is a native of our township and a graduate of Middle Township High School. He received an Associate in Arts Degree from the Central Penn Business School in Summerdale, Pa. (near Harrisburg). He previously worked for Cape Human Resources and has been a service counselor at the AAA Burleigh Office since October, 1983. Bieberbach, a resident of North Cape May, has been employed in the AAA office since September. 1976. and its office manager for the past six years. Bieberbach is the first person to be employed in her office's sales department. She is also the former mayor of Lower Township. The Middle Township Democrat Club is sponsor
ing a casino bus trip to the Golden Nugget Oct. 23. The bus will leave Garden Lake at 6 p.m. and Jamesway at 6: 10 p.m. There will be two buses. For reservations call 886-4804. THE MTHS KEY Club and the high school band will sponsor a pancake breakfast 7-11 p.m. Saturday in the high school cafeteria. Tickets may be purchased from any Key Club or band member The Elementary School 3 Safety Patrol received 45 new safety belts from the New Jersey State Police last week. The school was given the belts for having one of the top safety patrols in all of South Jersey. Normally the school would have to purchase these belts. Norm Smith is in his fifth year as the school's safety patrol advisor. THE PURPOSE of the school's safety patrol is to teach, promote, and encourage a positive safety code both in school and out of school in order to help prevent and eliminate accidents. Two patrol members assist the crossing guard in the morning and afternoon from the sidewalks. All other safeties monitor posts within the school building or playground during the lunch periods. The Middle Township Chamber of Commerce will hold a board of directors and general membership meeting in the public meeting room of the County Library Building 7 p.m. Oct. 7.
