Now it's official. The Housing Authority. City of Cape May. is allowing pets for residents in the Housing Authority project dwellings. Only dogs. cats, birds and fish are considered common household pets, and no others. All pets must be house broken before entering, also must be neutered or spayed, and cats must be declawed. Dogs must be of the size to be carried and held, and of course, must always be leashed when taken out. Birds — only of parakeet size. There is a "pet deposit" which must be given to the Housing Authority before any pet is permitted. There are also lots of other requirements, such as checking by veterinarian quarterly, what to do in case of a pet's death, any damage to property by pet. etc. etc. Best thing to do is to check with Carmelita McShane of the Housing Authority office at 639 Lafayette St., Cape May.
