Seaville Firemen Celebrate 20th
SEAVILLE - The Volunteer Fire Company celebrated its 10th anniversary by "housing" a new pumper, Sunday, Sept. 22. The new addition to the fire house has a 1500-gallon tank and a 1250 GPM pump. More than two-thirds of the $160,000 cost of the pumper will be paid for by the work of the ladies auxiliary, proceeds from Thursday night Bingo, and contributions from the community. THE HOUSING and dedication program started 1 p.m. with a Fourth of July style parade. Thirty-two trucks from 22 Cape May County Fire Company and the Upper Township Rescue Squad travelled the Seaville area streets. The parade lasted 45 minutes and ended at the Seaville Fire House, Rt. 50, where master of ceremonies, charter
member and first chief, Larry Lilly, welcomed over 600 guests. After prayers of thanks, Betty Corson, president of the ladies auxiliary, presented a check to President Charlie Tauscher, just as she had to First Chief Lilly 20 years ago. TAUSCHER and Chief Ed Denton received the Keys from John Deuter, head of the truck committee, and with Lt. Lou Addario and John Deuter at the wheel all firemen helped push the new pumper into its new Seaville home. Denton and Tauscher also presented a watch to Lilly on behalf of the Company for his 20-plus years of service to the community. Invocation and Benediction were conducted by the Rev. Russ Bower from the Second Cape May Baptist Church in Palermo. THE PRAYER of dedication was said by Chief Denton's uncle, the Rev. Robert Cannon, who made special arrangements and flew up from Richmond, Va., for the occasion. Denton announced that the flowers from the trucks would be placed on the
graves of charter members Curtis Corson, who was killed in the line of duty, "Pappy" Pew, Johnny Kruk and Frank Kruk. Following the ceremonies, all 600 guests were welcomed for refreshments and a chicken bar-b-q. The meal was made possible by subscriptions in the Housing Book and the sale of glass and ceramic mugs.
