Finds Newsprint Buyer MUA to the Rescue Of Recycling Plans

SWAINTON - With the discovery of a market in Pennsylvania willing to accept recycled newspapers, the county Municipal Utilities Authority has of-

fered to rescue recycling programs throughout Cape May County which had been stalled or discontinued. The MUA agreed to ac-

cept and transport recyclable newspaper to the Pennsylvania buyer without charge, beginning Sept. 20. There are a number of specifications which must be met. including acceptance of only one 15-ton load daily. IT IS HOPED that the plan will permit orderly elimination of all local stockpiles of newsprint by Nov. 1. Newsprint must be sorted before delivery to the Transfer Station, warns the MUA. There is no available space at the Transfer Station to separate or store newsprint. Standards set by the paper mill, according to the MUA, include: Only clean newspaper and Sunday supplements are accepted. MAGAZINES, catalogs, computer paper, books, corrugated paper, any other paper products and plastic bags will not be accepted. Kraft bags are acceptable only for the purpose of bundling papers. The paper must be dry. It will be necessary for each municipality to contact David Priggemeir, Transfer Station site supervisor, before delivery of each load of newspaper. DAILY RECORDS are kept of all newsprint received from each participating community, says the MUA, and after Nov. l, any revenues received in excess of direct transport expenses incurred by the authority will be credited to the municipal refuse disposal account proportionately. The cost of disposing of any load of newsprint rejected by the market will be deducted from the total revenues received.
