Some basic results, reports the Cape May County Council on Alcoholism, are: Most E.A.P.'s are sponsored by management. Most referrals into the | program were self-made. Ten percent provide in1 house treatment. One-third are contracted to public or private firms. Forty percent had two employes or less. THESE programs were ! started for the following reasons: To improve productivity. Some companies had an interest in improving attendance. 1 Others wanted to impact , on poor performance. , Others wished to contain r health costs. Other reponses indicated that it was a union request or that there was a concern of a drinking problem at a t corporate level. „ Seventy percent said they had no E. A. P.s despite the fact that between 5 peril cent and 10 percent of employes have alcohol problems. THE COST to the nation ' is estimated at nearly $150 n billion a year.
