(From Page V-ll) forgotten, as Joan Wells \ formerly executive direc- j tor of The Victorian Society i in America and an avid j gardener, will talk on how to plant a garden to com- | plement a Victorian house, what "garden furniture" to consider, and how the Victorians considered their gardens in relation to their homes. ^Following that lecture. Ann Miller of the Cape May Community Garden Club will give a practical talk and demonstration on how to use herbs and other plants from a Victorian garden to make Victorian accessories such as "tussymussies", pomander balls, potpourris, and sleep pillows. Finally, the Victorian gardens of Cape May will be open, with a gardener in each one to answer questions as workshop participants proceed from I garden to garden on a selfguided basis. THERE WILL also be a special workshop and demonstration on how to produce grained woods and marbelized materials, led by Charles Miller, ASID. curator of the Emlen , Physick House, featuring the newly restored and j marbleized woodwork by 1 Miller. Several evenLs have also I been scheduled by the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts I as part of Victorian Week : to parallel and complement I the activities of the workshop, including the I popular "Cottages at j Twilight" tour and "Man sions by Gaslight." the equally popular open-house I at four mansions, j The various speakers at the workshop will attend I these tours, and will be ( available to answer quesi lions and comment on the homes and their restoraI tion. along with the owners. ' who have done the restora - 1 tion work themselves in I most cases ALSO FEATURED dur p ing the workshop will be a 1 gala tea party and recepI tion hosted by several of
the restored Victorian guest houses of Cape May. so that participants may have an opportunity to view first-hand the interiors of these well-known Victorian homes which now welcome guests and to learn about their restoration. Registration for the fiveday workshop, is limited to 150 participants. Registration deadline was Sept. 30. although if space is available, registrations received after Sept. 30 will be accepted. Tickets for single lectures will be available at the door on a space-available basis.
