WASHINGTON. D C. - House Crime Subcommittee Chairman Bill Hughes (D-N.J.) has announced a nationwide series of hearings on firearms reform legislation to begin Oct. 28. in New York City. 1 'The proper regulation ot firearms is one of the most important issues our nation faces in assuring an i i

Many proposals to amend the 1968 Gun Control Act are pending and must be carefully examined to develop consensus legislation.'' said Hughes. Sportsmen and firearms dealers believe many of the Federal regulations are burden some. Police officers on the beat are worried about Senate-approved changes that could result in a flood of guns into the hands of criminals. We will be working with all concerned groups to develop consensus legislation that fights crime, protects the public and respects the rights of all," he went on.
