A truly wonderful book, which enables us to answer a great many reference questions, is The En cyclopedia of Associations. TTiis four-volume set of book lists all types of organizations throughout the United States and includes a volume of international organizations. The books includes the name, address, phone number, president, date of foundation, number of members, their goals, publications, major conventions, etc. WHY WOULD you need to know this? Well, if you are interested in getting in touch with the Lute Society of America for the names of lute teachers, manufacturers, of other musicians, this book will be of assistance. As a parent, if you wish to be aware of the books, television programs and learning materials that are unblessed regarding race, age. sex or physical handicaps; you might wish to contact the Council on Interracial Books for Children in New York and subscribe to its bulletin. If you are interested in things medieval. PROBABLY the most asked for association this year may be Dark Skies for Comet Halley, a section of the Astronomical League which disseminates information on Halley's Comet destined to appear overhead in March of April of 1986. There is also an organization for those who will be viewing the comet for a second time. The most frequent use of this source that I have found in the performances of reference duties has been to provide addresses of associations linked to medical problems — The American Cancer Society, Diabetes Foundation. Epilepsy Society, and most recently Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association. If you have an interest there's undoubtedly a group somewhere devoted to that interest which will share its knowledge, information and experience with you, and the Cape May County Library can help you make the connection.
