i N. Wildwood OKs Upgrading Plant
NORTH WILDWOOD - At a special meeting Oct. 4. the mayor and council approved the concept of Ralph Petrella. from Van Note-Harvey Associates, to upgrade portions of the existing collection system to minimize inflow to gravity sewers and to provide in-
terim improvements to the i wastewater treatment \ system. r Since the County t Municipal Utilities £ Authority is constructing ( regional facilities to replace North Wildwood's c Treatment Plant are in- I terim measures to j eliminate the collection f system's overflows and to f improve plant operation. This will not provide additional wastewater collection and treatment capacity. NEW WATER-TIGHT frames and covers will be installed at existing manholes in the critical areas. Sewer vents will be required where several water-tight covers are installed in the same area. Individual house lateral vents should be plugged or extended vertically to prevent surface runoff from existing sewers. The 18-inch gravity sewer line from Surf Avenue to the 10th Avenue pumping station will be cleaned out to afford maximum capacity, along with the 30-inch line from the 10th Avenue station to the waste water treatment plant. The City will upgrade the existing plant with various pumps, piping, and related mechanical and electrical equipment and replace ex-
chlorination systems with ton-type units and modify the connections to the contact tank. It will also add an additional new clarifier. This will increase the capacity of the plant to 6.2 M.G.D. during peak flow periods. New connector drains, and appurtenances are to be in-
stalled by Deltronics. Inc.. of Millville. under contract with the city. This will increase the plants treat- i ment efficiency As a related problem, the city will also attempt to include. once estimates are given, ways to extend and improve outfall lines to prevent flooding in certain areas.
