Cape Gets $29,935 Aid For Poor
TRENTON - Cape May I County will receive $29,935 I from the state to provide I services for the homeless, it I has been announced by Gov. I Thomas Kean and Acting I Commissioner Geoffrey S. I Persely of the Department I of Human Services. The funds, from a total of I $2.85 million in state funds, I are allocated on the basis of I a 1980 census, which show- I ed the county had 7,274 per- I sons below the poverty I level, or 1.05 percent of I those in the state. The county was fourth I lowest in the state in the I number below poverty level, I behind Hunterdon, Warren, I and Sussex. The money will be used to I provide emergency food and I shelter and other support I services for homeless indi- I vidua Is. County GOP Dinner Set WILDWOOD - Cape I May County Republican Organization will hold its annual dinner on Saturday, at 6:45 p.m., in Wildwood Convention Hall. The Rev. George Riley, vice president of Villanova University, will be the guest speaker. GOP candidates including Assemblymen Joseph Chinnici and Guy Muzian and Freeholder James S. Kilpatrick. Jr., will appear. In-service Training For Police COURT HOUSE - Chief Edward Hansen of the Middle Township Police Department has announced that his department has just completed the first of several weeks of planned in-service training. This past week, Hansen said, a refresher course in police report writing was conducted by Detective Sgt. Walter Oliver. Also during this past week. Sgt. William Shea instructed all police personnel in precautionary measures to be taken when handling diseased persons, focusing primarily on AIDS victims. Next week the department will start to re«jualify all officers in the use of weapons including handguns. shotguns, PR-24's and chemical weapons. Before the end of this year, Hansen hopes to have all personnel trained in first aid. Meeting Set On Chapter, I ERMA - The first meeting of the Richard M. Teitelman School Chapter I wttrtte held 4 p.m. Thursday. Oct. 24. in the Frances E. Jackson Media Center of the school. This will be an introductory and organizational meeting.
