Trap Ban To Begin Oct. 27 CONVENT STATION - Steel-jaw leghold traps are illegal in New Jersey effective Oct. 27, according to legislation signed into law by Governor Thomas Kean last year. "Even though the trapping season has not started, our office already has received reports of two domestic animals injured in such traps." said Nina Austenberg.- director of The Humane Society of the United States. Mid-Atlantic Regional Office here It is illegal to manufac- I ture. sell, offer for sale, possess, import or transport a steel-jaw leghold trap. Moreover, no animal shall be taken by means of this trap, pointed out Austenberg. The Humane Society of the United States is urging citizens who see these traps after Oct. 27 to contact their local police depart ment or conservation officer and the society office at (201) 377-7111. The conservation officer for the Southern District, including Cape May County. is 629-0555.

Race Winner Sets Cape May Record

CAPE MAY — Steven Osmer of Erma, who is attached to the United States Coast Guard Training Center here, breezed to victory in the second annual Cape May Beachfront Run Saturday. Oct. 5, in a course record time of 26 minutes 23 seconds LINDA McGOVERN of Avalon took top honors in (he women's division as she finished the 4.4 mile course in 31 minutes 10.1 seconds. Approximately 110 runners participated in the race, which went the length of Cape May's Beachfront twice on a cool, sunny day HELPING to make this event successful were Cape May Point Volunteer Fire Co..
