Heritage Has Busy Month
NORTH CAPE MAY - Heritage Christian Academy has enjoyed a productive first month of school. The doors opened for students Wednesday, Sept. 4. Classes this year include pre-Kindergarten through third grade. On Sept. 11, the school sponsored Grandparent's Day. Grandparents of students were invited to come to school and observe several classes. They stayed for lunch and ate with the children. On Sept. 21, the Women's Missionary Society sponsored a spaghetti dinner as a fund-raiser for the school. On Oct. 8, the classes went on a field trip to the Cape May City Fire Hall. Fireman Bill Szemcsak showed the children around the facilities. The tour included a trip to the museum, and was highlighted by a demonstration of the fire engine. THIS IS THE first year that Heritage Academy has offered a pre-Kindergarten Program. Parents have a choice of a 5-day, a 3-day or a 2-day program. The main emphasis is on readiness skills. Children are learning to recognize and write both letters and numbers. They are learning colors, shapes, etc. Students "are involved in a daily Bible lesson. Weekly activities include music, art, gym and Chapel. Miss Terri Noon is their teacher. The Kindergarten class is taught by Mrs. Ann Fincke. Pupils are working their way through the alphabet, learning to recognize each letter and its sound, and to write the letters. THEY ARE working on a science unit about God's plan for people and the wonderful way that He made them. A special emphasis is on the five senses and how God gave them to people to help them learn about the world around them. Miss Sue Loveless is teaching first and second grades. This week, the children worked on writing their addresses. They learned where they live in their community and how the community works regarding streets, towns and states. They learned how the postman knows where to deliver a letter. Their next lessons will be on ways of communication. THE THIRD GRADE teacher, George Meadows, has done some interesting things with his class. In Health, they have had a unit on the basic food groups. The children have learned about the different types of food they should eat during their meals. In History, they have studied the story of Columbus and his voyages. Heritage Christian Academy is at 123 Fishing Creek Rd., and is still accepting applications for the current school year. For more information, call 886-3475. $
