an overall expansion of services. which will lie made possible by "The Senior Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation Assistance Program". This new funding source is available to each county in New Jersey through casino revenue taxes, and will allow for further expansion of Cape May's system in 1986. -WE ARE TALKING about a lot of money here." Frederick said. "175.000 a year for Cape May County — and this study will ensure that whatever new or expanded services we add will be based on actual need, and not simply to spend the money." While these funds are geared to elderly and/or disabled residents, the study will consider the transportation needs of all county residents. FareFree is presently providing 17,000 one-way trips per month. "We might, very easily, provide another 17.000 and still not meet everyone's needs." Rowe said. "While the freeholders have always provided for our elderly and disabled residenis. the county cannot bear the financial ■ burden of providing free I service to everyone, even I though the need is clearly I there. I'm hoping that the I findings and recommenda-

tions of this study will give us ammunition to convince the private providers to expand service within Cape May County." THE 23 DRIVERS employed by the County Fare-Free Transportation Department, in addition to its Escort Service, which serves all of the social service agencies in the county as well as doctors, provide the following: fixed-route service to all 16 municipalities in Cape May County for shopping, dailymeals to the homes of lit) elderly residents who are enrolled in the "Meals on Wheels'' program; transportation to and from the Senior Citizen Centers and Nutrition Program sites throughout the county; and service to the county's mentally and/or physically handicapped residents who are employed by the Jersey Cape Diagnostic. Training and Opportunities Center at Crest Haven, under its work-pool program, which is open to the general service.
