Feds Approve A.C. Rail Line
WASHINGTON. DC. Congressman Bill Hughes t D-NJ t has announced that they long-awaited Atlantic City rail project has hopefully cleared its last hurdle in Washington, and is finally on its way towards' construction. Hughes said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole has offinally signed off on the plan to restore both express and commuter rail service along the Philadelphia to Atlantic Ci- . ty corridor. The South Jersey lawmaker said the Secretary's action releases the $30 million in federal funds which Congress previously appropriated to help rehabilitate the rail line. He said he is optimistic that train service into the resort will be operational in two years "1 envision the Atlantic City rail line serving as the centerpiece of a regional passenger train system in our area, with direct service eventually extending into other parts of South Jersey." Hughes said.
"The line will help attract new jobs and industry to our area, and the commuter stops will ensure (hat South Jersey residents realize the full benefits of this rail service." Release of the federal funds caps a 10-year effort by Congressman Hughes to provide modern passenger rail service to the South Jersey seashore, he said. Beginning in 15175 — three years before casino gambling began in Atlantic City — Hughes has led the fight against the state's efforts to terminate service along the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Line into Cape May. Wildwood and Atlantic City. The Congressman maintained at the time that the state's refusal to upgrade the PRSI. contributed to its low ridership. and made it the best-kept secret in the state. Unfortunately, the state terminated all service along the PRSL in 1981. at the time the casino industry begun attracting more visitors to Atlantic City.

Here's Dolly By Dolly gunp" ^
I hope you've saved your silver fox coat, jacket, stole. Kolinsky fur piece, etc etc. You know why? They've all come back — plus the very wide silk pants, turbans, pillbox hats and even wide lapels. Then there are the very popular jumpers — they're in too. AND. beaded everything from dresses, gloves, hats to stockings, shoes and handbags. Also polka dots. So it looks to me that anything goes — after all. they're showing long skirts, short ones and minis. Remember the chatelaine jewehy which had two pins with ornaments. beads and a little chain attached? Well, they're in again. So you imagine I've spent some very trying days going through the "attic junk'' which I had prepared to throw out — now. I'm dragging most of it back — especially since I've been all through the fashion magazines and see the same stuff we wore years ago and now the prices are way. way out. The moral to this story is: Wear what you have and just know you're in with the day's fashions. I suppose it's the old story that history repeats itself. ONE OF THE loveliest and most beautiful weddings was that just recently of Renee Bevin and David Crock. Renee had one of the most gorgeous gowns I've ever seen and the f seven bridesmaids all in pale orchid were outstanding with ankle length dresses and picture hats. Mothers of the bride and groom were lovely too - traffic came to a halt as all passerbys watched the wedding party get into the horse and carriages the Cape May Mall looked like a scene from the past - all so very elegant HALLOWEEN IS upon us and the City of Cape May offices look so colorful with all the pumpkins and other deeorations — even to the "almost real" look ing paper bats suspended from the ceilings - so very real, especially since I know what they really look like after having a bat in my home this summer'
One good place to look for a Halloween outfit cheap is the Star of the Sea Thrift Shop, in the basement One * young man bought the bridal outfit with veil too. only he had difficulty get ting slippers to fit. One person was going to be a table with a red-checked cloth covering the wooden square piece on his head Another was going to be a flapper, but no matter how you look at it there's lots of fun and laughter that all enjoy. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Paul Bogle of the Washington Mall Fudge Kitchen. He received lots of "special greetings" from the girls at the Klothes Kove i.e.. Chrissv. Donna and Sandy. Also best wishes to Mary Keating. Lawrence Trent. Marjorie Smith and Lois Hart — all born on Trick or Treat and they surely get lots of kidding about it. Received a nice note from the Catholic Social Service in Rio Grande for the cooperation given them through this column for their Christ Child Society Baby Shower which is for the benefit of mothers-to-be who need help. National President Agnes Kavanagh also attended the shower and Sister Patricia Corson was one of the speakers. This is a most worthy organization helping so fmarry unwed mothers at a difficult time. IN MEMORIAM.: Octavia de.Wiranda - actually Countess deMiranda, though she didn't use her title. Octavia was born in France - a skilled draftsman and artist and for the past 15 years was affiliated with the Cape May County Art League, where she devoted much of her time and expertise Nothing was too much for Octavia to do I watched in awfe one time while she fixed the faulty lock on the front door of the League She was always a pleasant person whose 90 years of age never showed and were difficult to bcliei^fe-tavia will be missed ■Pmany, especially her companion of 50 years.
