Also this year the program is in search of adults to act as coaches If you are interested, report io one of the registration centers and offer your assistance. There is really nothing quite as enjoyable as assisting in a youth program Give it a shot: the program needs your support and you'll be the better for your offering. fame. Joe Barnes, and Charles Sansone. MidLantic Bank officer, have formed a triumvirate and are on the brink of pu'rehasing Neil's from Neil Gordon. A rumor of a Neil's sale has periodically surfaced over the past few years. We have all heard of the Bookbinder proposed purchase and of course Lou Lambert was rumored to be buying the facility last year. The latest news circulating through the Atlantic Restaurant, however, seems the most substantive rumor yet In fact, manyseem to feel thai the "new" owners will be open in November. If such be the case, we wish them well, as another full-service, quality restaurant open all year, is always a welcome event. A SIIOKT Bl SI N ESS note The principals involved with the Club 18 are announcing their purchase of I) ' C o n t i n e n t a I Restaurant. Spruce and New Jersey Avenue. North Wildwood. Previously, and for manyV years, the spot was knoxvn as Mickey O'Rourke's. A few years ago. it was purchased and renamed the D'Continental. It seems that the proposed Lighthouse Mall has drawn the Club 18's interest, hence the nexv purchase Soon to Ik1 dublied "The Talk of Ihe Town", the facility will specialize in large groups and will endeavor to become tin- "in spot" for th? lour brokers who bring countless senior citizens into our area each spring and fall THE COMMUNITY of West Wildxvood is the site ol a scheduled bazaar with I tie West W ildxvood Social Club as host II you arc looking tor something to do on either Friday. ends, the attendees must still pass the N.J. examination for licensing prior to practicing, but the test notxvithstanding. local brokers seem to be expressing interest in the soon-to-be graduates. Much of the flurry of activity is directly attributable to the many condominiums that have sprung up of late. A brief review of. the Five Mile Beach sales as reported weekly in this paper's transactions section will indicate the magnitude of this type of industry. It is definitely a growth industry for the Wildwoods. and one can only imagine Pierce's spring class at the El Coronado being larger still. ALSO COMING out of the wonderful world of real estate is the news of a pending expansion Haynes Realty is in the process of expanding its services into several other South Jersey communities. Rumored to include several other individuals. the expanded firm will be one of the largest in our area. Chris Russell, from the Haynes Agency, has already purchased a house in North Wildxvood with obvious designs on its becoming a Haynes Realty "norlh". Next into Avalon? It xvould seem so as the quiet community boasts ot having many Siioo.ooo-plus homes and condos. which for obvious reasons are a Realtor's dream. THREE NOTES of import a n c e concerning Wildwood Crest residential First and foremost to many concerns Halloween The Borough officials would like all to know that Thursday. Oct. 31. is the of finally recognized evening for trick or treating They would also like to stress Ihe fact that this is the ONLY sanctioned night The costumed cadres will Ik* tramping the streets between 5 and 7 p m Residents are requested to turn on all exterior lighting lor safety's sake, and motorists are urged to ex erase more than Ihe usual caution while driving This applies throughout our Island Hundreds of little ones will be about., so please drive carefullv ' SECONDLY, the final town meeting concerning the fate of Crest Fier is scheduled for this evening at the pier The time for the informational gathering will be 7:30 p.m and all residents are urged to attend so that the vote they cast on the Nov. 5th election will be the most in-

formed decision they can - cast. Thirdly, and also concer- : ning the election, is the location of the polling place J for residents of Wildwood Crest's Second District. For many years, each second district resident has traveled the beaten path to the ballot box located in Borough Hall. No more! Effective Nov. 5. the official polling place for the second district will be the Masonic Hall in the 6300 block of Atlantic Avenue between Columbine and Wisteria Avenues Take note... WHILE WE'RE mentioning Wisteria Avenue, have you ever noticed the spelling of the word "Wisteria" on the street signs in Wildwood Crest? Each directional aid is spelled "Wistaria". For years, the insertion of the letter "A" where I have always been accustomed to seeing the letter "E" bothered me. Further investigation of the situation indicated that when the original renderings were set down years ago. the designer opted for the older and infrequently used spelling of Wistaria Certainly an acceptable answer, but nonetheless the "A" still bothers me. Also, as this area's resident Steeler and Pirate fan. having been raised outside of Pittsburgh mote the Hi. the spelling of PITTSBURG Avenue in Wildwood Crest ranks right up there with Wistaria I have this almost unconctrollable desire to add an "H" to each of the corner posts It drives me nuts' NORTH WILDWOOD seems to have had the smartest street listings afld I can drive up and down this fine community's "streets without being distracted There is something reassuring about numerically listed streets, each spelled correctly But the "k^fe" concerning signagw^the Crest has to be Ihe beach rules signs located along this community's outstanding beaches As with other communities, the usual prohibitions are listed; No Alcoholic Beverages No Changing of Clothes No Ball Playing The list goes on and on That's all perfectly acceptable Attending Ihe list of "Don'ts" is quite naturally the statement of consequences for those who "Do". The standard fine and maximum punidhment are listed BUT in thtfVrest the list of consequCTices is ended with a bold ETC. Even the maximum penalty is not that frightening. but the ETC has to upset any potential offender Get caught "popping" a top from a cold one in the Crest and you may face an ETC. as a result
