Shopping Plan Aids Home Residents

STONE HARBOR - Area nursing home residents will once again be treated to "free" shopping for Christmas gifts this year, thanks to employes of Sturdy Savings and Loan and the generosity of community members Last year. Sturdy employes organized a project whereby they and citizens throughout Cape May County donated items to the Eastern Shore Nursing Home so residents there could find Christmas gifts for their families and friends without leaving the facility or spending money. •THE PROGRAM last year was a complete success and employes from each of our five offices will be donating their gifts and time to the effort again this year," said John Armour, president of Sturdy Savings and Loan. "We want to do what we can to help make the holidays happy for as many people as possible." Project coordinator Lenore Donohue, also manager of Sturdy's Cape May Court House office, said this year's drive is now underway and any donations or contributions from community members would be appreciated. "We need all types of €ts this year for' men. men and children of all ages." she said. "The gifts are for the family members and friends of the nursing home residents we'll visit, not the residents themselves." DONOHUE "SAID new and used gifts, in good condition, will be accepted at any of Sturdy's five offices in Cape May County and should be-small enough - or packed tightly enough - so they can be easilytransported fr^fn Sturdyoffices to the nursing home Donations of wrapping paper will also be welcome, she said. Once the items are delivered to the nursing facility. Sturdy employes will wrap those chosen as gifts by residents.

"Last year we spent a Saturday afternoon at Eastern Shore and wrapped the gifts the residents wanted, and the looks of appreciation and thanks we received were almost overwhelming." Donohue said. "We had some items left over and took them to the Cape Care Center afterwards for the residents there." THE NURSING home involved in this year's project and the date the gifts will be delivered is still under consideration. Donohue said more than one nursing facility may be involved this year. "We received such an overwhelming and generous response from our employes and the community last year and we're looking forward to experiencing that again this year," Donohue said. Items can be dropped off at any of the following Sturdy Savings and Loan offices: In Stone Harbor at 94th Street and 3rd Avenue; in Dennisville at Rt. 47 and Woodbine Road; in Court House at 17 S. Main Street; in North Cape May at 3851 Bayshore Rd. ; and in Avalon at 2628 Dune Dr.
