For Survivors , Benefits Make Big Difference
After two years Mrs. Roberta A. Coleman can still vividly remember her state of shock after learning that the North Atlantic had claimed the life of her husband. Edward Coleman, a crew member on the 125-ft. clammer Misty Blue. This accident also claimed the life of his stepfather. Kristian Isaksen. Coleman, who usually worked as a mate on the Ni/s-S. had been filling in on the Misty Blue and was to be replaced on the next trip when the boat sank April 12, 1983, 30 miles off the coast of Cape May. taking his life and the lives of the other three crew members. COLEMAN. NO stranger to tragedy, was a survivor on a clamming boat out of Wildwood that went down off the coast of Virginia in 1978, claiming the life of his father.
At the time of his death Coleman, 37, was a sevenyear resident of Green Creek, where he lived with his wife Roberta, and four sons, David 17; Edward 13; Corey 11: and Jason 3. His hobbies included sketching and photography. shortly before his death he had set up an exhibit at the Wildwood Crest Library. He was a member of the Elks and former member of the Moose Lodgg and the Cape May County Riding Club. He also worked with local Boy Scouts, teaching them boating safety and knot tying. IF A SEVERE disabilityshould occur before age 22. childhood disability benefits would be paid for the duration of the disability. Mrs. Coleman will receive mother's benefits while caring for her children. When the youngest child reaches age 16. her benefits will be stopped, unless one of the children becomes disabled and remains in her care. In addition, a one-time lump sum death payment of $255 was made to help defray the cost of burial expenses. This* is paid to the surviving spouse who was living with the deceased, or is eligible for monthly benefits.
